Before the maths nerds get too excited this is not a binary thread. It is my view on adding the npx300 to a 300 series system.
I got my first one at the beginning of the year and liked what it did to both the 333 source and 332 preamp. Overall, I preferred it on the preamp giving smoothness and fluidity over dynamics and detail when it was on the steamer.
Following the purchase of a second npx300, I was quite reasonably expecting to get both the dynamics and the fluidity but I seem to have got much, much more. My first impression was the music seemed slower because there is so much separation of the different instruments but as your brain adjusts you begin to hear things, nuances particularly at the start and end of notes which actually makes the rhythm more pronounced. The soundstage is so much bigger too as is the realism of the instruments.
I have had this experience before when listening to a 552/500 at a dealer demo but not before in my own lounge. The music just sounds right, thrilling if you like - so yeah sometimes one plus another one can make ten.
Meant to say I also experienced this very impressive sound at the Naim 300 series event at my dealers which Jason Gould led but still amazing to hear it in the more familiar environs at home with music I know well.
Domestic harmony should never be ignored. My husband, who is not an audio geek, but has a great sense of aesthetics, is consulted before I purchase. He hardly ever objects, so why should I not get his input? He was adamant regarding rack height and speaker height. I accepted that. He wants to preserve room aesthetics and our NYC skyline view.
