Wow what a great stage. Shout out to Derek Gee, from my town here in Ottawa. His Dad was a successful Masters racer in our club (I was more of a “spirit of the club” rider!!) and Derek raced as a junior. Super nice and friendly family, clearly passionate and able to put the work in. So happy to see him being combative and riding well… after a few stages as the bridesmaid I sure am hoping he gets a win at this Giro. Go Derek Go!

A second stage win for Nico Denz, today after an aggressive chase group pursuit chasing down a three man breakaway and catching them in the final kilometre.
The GC peloton reluctant to chase and (the Grenadiers) to defend the Maglia Rosa saw the jersey go Bruno Armirail.
Ineos Grenadiers plummet down the team classification to 3rd place as Bahrain-Victorious take up the unexpected leadership.
Meanwhile the tussle of who wears the Maglia Azzurra continues with Davide Bais winning 40 KOM points along with the regaining the leadership from Pinot.

One DNF today: Alessandro Verre (Ita) Team Arkéa Samsi
After an initial severe 1st category climb the course offers a multitude of relatively straightforward, punchy climbs which will offer opportunities for a variety of crafty team work attacks and give it all in have a go hero skulduggery with the knowledge that tomorrow is a necessary recovery rest day.
This stage should produce an entertaining bike race, just got to hope it doesn’t rain (again).
Will be interesting to see if Armirail is still wearing the Maglia Rose at the end of the day… which maybe hard to see under a black rain jacket

A well earned victory for Brandon McNulty, goes to show how good some of these team helpers can be on the right day.
Today’s stage caused no changes to the top GC, Bruno Armirail lost a little time but retains his Maglia Rosa.
Apart from the Maglia Rosa and the ultimately Giro 2023 winner, the next most exciting and changeable contest brewing up is the King of the Mountains, with Einer Rubio and Ben Healy hoovering up a massive total of points today and producing a four horse race for the Maglia Azzurra.
Frigo certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons with a crazy sprint for the line - I thought he might get away with it but Healy and McNulty dug deep, McNulty having a little bit more in the tank. Grreat finish to the stage.
A look ahead to the final week of Giro d’italia 2023
Six stages left to go to consist of three in the mountains, one very hilly time trial, and two flat stages for the sprinters.

Superb climbing performance of Geraint Thomas to re-gain the Maglia Rose and only to edged out of the stage win by a very determined, João Almeida.
Bruno Armirail finally loses the Maglia Rose as he drops down six places to 7th GC.
Primož Roglič retains his 3rd GC position but loses time to Geraint Thomas.
Crafty Jonathan Milan joins the breakaway for the very first climb, and to extend his large Maglia Ciclamino lead by winning a few more sprint points, job done he returns to the peloton to conserve energy for the flat stage tomorrow.
Ben Healy the only top KOM competitor to get into the breakaway, won enough mountain points to take the KOM lead, and wear the Maglia Azzurra.
