2026 - F1 Season

Not sure on the extended bargeboards infront of the side pods. They look a little exposed, think there could be alot of carbon fibre littering the tracks when it becomes percussive racing.

F1 cars often get front wing damage in races. With the new active aero wings it could mean more nose replacing in races.

Very, very, I mean very early yet… But Merc do look to be in business…

The season has already started with a lot of psychological watfare and mind games going on in and off the track in f1 already. Let’s see who’s gonna blink first?

James Vowles has spoken with the media. Here is a summary of what he said.

I’ve just listened to JV’s update on the Williams F1 App, he seemed positive about the Bahrain tests and the season ahead so I’ll see how they perform and not worry about missing the closed door test.

This season sees the biggest change in F1 for many a year, it will be an interesting first few races as teams and drivers get used to the new cars and how they drive, how the new rules work and from the designers standpoint; whether they can find a loophole or two to give them an advantage.

I’m pretty sure that the cars that turn up in Bahrain will be updated throughout the season and some will have updates by the time they reach the grid in Melbourne.

Could 2026 be a ‘Brawn’ season where a team outside the top 4 in 2025 gets their new car spot on and hits the track running leaving the rest playing catchup?

Brilliant, I love how WH have Ferrari 3rd in the team championship but with both drivers behind Alonso in the drivers. Equally I’m not sure that whilst Alonso remains an excellent driver he is a creditable challenger in the drivers championship.

You can also question many of the odds quoted, for example Audi 6th two places above Williams in the Constructors but both Audi drivers behind the Williams guys in the drivers stats how does that work?

But it will be interesting to see how these WH odds compare to the final standings at the end of the season, something to look back on and analyse.

Audi - former Sauber(and whatever they were called last year) had a good structure already in place when they entered F1 with former Ferrari man Mattia Binotto and Jonathan Wheatley (formerly of Red Bull) at the helmet and I think they might spring a surprise or two.

Yes, I agree with your thoughts on Audi, they aren’t in F1 to make up the numbers and know a thing or two about winning motor races so I do expect them to be picking up points from an early stage in the season, I don’t think a podium or two would be an unreasonable expectation in their first season.

Some good numbers for lots of the teams there.

Pace wise, clearly Merc, McLaren and both RB teams already have some while going through the motions of a shakedown.
Merc quickest so far but without exploiting all the toys and modes. And I believe on hard tyres.
Ominously George has said they may try for some fast times this afternoon…

I don’t think we will know anything for sure until the first few races have been completed. However, so far, it does look like there will be a few teams competing for wins.

I’m all for a number of different teams getting to the front at each race, how the new magic boost button works and how drivers adapt to it will be interesting.

All I really want is to see is a season of good racing with plenty of overtaking, what I don’t want is a season of 24 processional races.

I suspect that there will be quite a bit overtaking until everyone figures out how and where to use various tricks.

No doubt the sims will give everyone a good idea before each race but I can imagine room for error in these, especially in changeable conditions.

Williams has just completed a filming day at Silverstone.

Yeah, I bet its not…

Puzzled by comment, care to elaborate?

I meant as in the finished article.

Seems an open secret that Williams have even more problems than they’re letting on. James is having to present as good a face as he can of course.

They had to have a filming day of some sort today. But still couldn’t muster a car of any shape to put on show indoors for the press at the launch event yesterday. And I suspect what was on the track was a bitsa.

But people like Williams so the press etc. are being kind.

Fingers crossed all is well next week.

I always like to lend my moral support to up and coming F1 teams and we all know how difficult it is to break into this loved sport of ours.
This is an email I received on 03/04/2009.
I do wonder what happened to them?!

Testing is progressing but very worrying.

Max and Lewis being critical of the new direction and biggest time differential for years from front runners.

As feared this could be disastrous
