222 noise after changing volume

Hi,

I recently bought a new 222.

Whenever i change volume (remote, app, or volume dial) i listen to a sound coming from the left speaker, 1-2 seconds after the volume change.

I left the 222 at the portuguese distributor, they tested my 222 and another one they have there and…both units with the same problem.

It seems that when the volume numbers disapperar and the art cover appears, that’s the moment the noise appears. Apparently also on the right speaker, but much less.

Don’t know yet if this a general 222 problem or not (both unit tested have close serial numbers).

This is more easily perceived listening near field at low volume.
Anyone else has this problem?

The traditional naim built quality apparently is a “lost tradition”. All this talk about volume control implementation to improve sound quality and they forgot to implement the basics right.

This is really disappointing.

Best regards,
RCSM

No such problem with my 222, which is powered by a 300.

No problems with my 222/555/250NC. Dead quiet when the music is playing or not.

No such problem with my NSC 222 (approx. 1 year old). No NPX 300 yet, sadly. Slight transformer hum occasionally - due to a fridge freezer I think, but I’ve yet to isolate the offending item! It’s quite inaudible when playing music though.

I wonder if it could be from the screen coming on rather than the volume control itself?

Have you tried with the screen permanently on and then off? Is it at max brightness?

Strange if 2 units have the same issue at 2 separate setups?

Hi,

I have 222+250nc.

At home i had the option to turn off the cover art display and minimum brightness.

Because i now listen nearfiled, the noise is perceveid when the volume is low <20 and depending on what is playing.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I suggest you give it a try at maximum screen brightness and see if it’s still there?

What position do you have the ground switch on the NSC222 set to ?

Any difference in the noise you hear when you change volume if you change the position of the switch ?

I have not encountered that issue with my 222 into a 250DR. Good luck though!

I concur with others that I haven’t experienced this noise on my 222/555/350 system.

The noise is independent of brigthness display.

Default ground switch.

I don’t think it impacts sound quality.

Does the noise occur when you physically turn the volume dial? Does it occur if you change the volume in the Naim app?

Take it to the dealer for a refund IMO

I don’t understand what you are expecting from the forum - the unit is clearly faulty as is the other one tested by the distributor. If they acknowledge this, then it’s up to them to sort it out with Naim. Nothing said here can alter this. If the distributor won’t help, then contact Naim support directly. That said, it’s clearly a frustrating situation for you, but it can be dealt with and should be - promptly.
