Given charlie.henderson’s recent comment I’d say you have the option to wait if you can take it any longer
True, but if it sounds loud after about 30 minutes compared with the SN2 at home, doesn’t seem quite right
One thing I don’t understand : there are so many threads on that hypothetical 272 arrival but no certainty for its coming at all.
Charlie Henderson responded something like « the best thing need time to come ».
I understand that Naim can’t announce a product before its official launching.
But why not just say « we are working on a new 272 project « ? Or say « unfortunately no other preamp / streamer in one box will be done « ?
People are writing, asking, even now waiting, but without knowing for sure if one day it will be produced. Is it so difficult for Naim to stop that ?
I don’t know why they do what they do, but it’s certainly safer not to announce something when you can’t be 100% sure when and if. (We do this as well in my work, a new version will be out when we think it passes our own high standards and we won’t rush it to an artificial release date, but in this case it’s different because it’s a software subscription, so people can pay if they think the existing product is worth it and all updates are included.)
But anyways, the comment and its smiley were clear enough to me - it won’t come this year, but it will come and it will be good. This may not be satisfying to anyone who needs something now, but as it seemed to me that Slamdam would much prefer a 272-style box, and because I don’t know if he is aware of charlie’s comment, I just wanted to remind that the option to wait is there and the outlook has recently improved considerably
The only thing that is certain in the Naim world Is that something is coming and it will be good
Yes, funny how that works eh?
Your 250 is an upgrade from the amp section of my SN2, but my NDS/Hi-line/SN2 combo sounds superb. So your 250 must, as well.
No worries! Went SN2 to 282/200 and was very well behaved and not punchy. Gave more detail. 250dr later and was great!
I have an NDS/SN2 as well, and if I was going to add anything to the amplification it would be a Nac 252. From what I’ve read and researched, anyway.
I think that’s what I’d like to but for me too many boxes added. The listening room is also the living room unfortunately.
What would be great is another integrated but at a level above the SN
250DR…252… NDX2 …Top shelf
…SCAPDR…XPSDR…Bottom shelf
No, no, no, no…

Yes, box count is an issue. Mine is in the living room, as well.
I personally, will probably just stay with the current setup, but I’ll max out any improvements via PSs, Cabling, etc.
At some point I may add an ND5 XS2 in order to include the new Streaming tech in my system.
I just noticed the metal housing on my 300PS is I would say grey to light grey and the housing on the 300DR is deep black as the front on both. Should it be like this? They are both 7 years old but the 300DR has been upgraded to DR in 2016. They are both in mint condition.
I can only say that both are the same black color on my new 300, and the front of both is a bit more black than the housing
They both use very different processes (one is anodised, the other powder coated) so some slight variance in different lights is probably to be expected. I did notice that the anodising changed some years back (IIRC the supplier had a fire?) - it’s darker and glossier now compared to earlier on in the Classic/Reference timeline so there’s a little more noticeable difference between the blackness of the fascia and the cover.
Hi @Blackbird Looking at the pictures the light is hitting both differently - you can can see this in the strength of the shadow on the top of the units. In the the top image the shadow is very black, and the lower image it is definitely grey. I am not saying that you are incorrect, but the light could be making them look more different than they actually are.
Just to be clear. It’s not the front we talk about. Your third box from the bottom looks a bit more grey on the casing but might be the lights.
Need a little help here because I might have got caught in a mind (ear) trap. Currently using 272/300DR and before this I had a 250DR. Initially all was great with the 300DR, and still a lot is but I believe some of the 272/250DR foot tapping mojo has left and I cannot point to what it is in detail but I think the 250DR combo sounded more as “one” and maybe a bit more meaty/warm/energetic? A bit like the difference between SN2 and SN3 for you who have tried it out. It feels like the 272/250DR combo can be listened to for longer but might be mood dependent. At times I miss the 250DR but they are both great so not sure how to move forward because going back would instead make me miss the great stuff with the 300DR. Adding a 555PS DR seems to at least on paper get the 272 in a direction which I would appreciate together with the 300DR but I’m not interested in box war so need to find a slim setup. What I don’t want by upgrading is to get to a system that is crazy details cold high def details blast extreme that is fun for the first hour and then your ears bleed.
Question for those who have done the same upgrade as me using a 272. Do you recognise anything of what I talk about here?
