250 vs 300

Will Do!

Step 1 complete: Fraim/fraimlite mix installed. To me my system sounded wonderful on my 5 tier Target rack. Well it still sounds wonderful with the new rack, though surprisingly the change has mainly benefitted the turntable with a marked improvement in pretty much every aspect of its performance. I guess sitting the turntable psu on the edge of the 555ps was a bigger compromise than I’d realised. For the NDS the change is subtler, here everything sounds a little bit more relaxed, a little tighter with a bit more shape in the lower registers. Overall a success and I’m very happy to leave it in situ for the next few weeks before installing the 300 and the extra level.

Everything is more alive, more present, more sculpted … but without slamming it in your face … with grace and precision but at the same time firm and decisive control …

Details previously unknown … as if I had removed a blanket from above the speakers … Especially at medium / low volumes … the range is as if it had been completed …

infinitely satisfied! it is undoubtedly a huge upgrade from the 250 … happy happy happy:star_struck::star_struck::star_struck:

250DR >300 or 300>250DR anyone?

Really simple in my opinion - 300 every day, whichever version. Can always be upgraded if the bug bites later.

I should stick to the padded cell…

OK then…282/300 > 252/250DR or 252/250DR > 282/300? 300 everyday?

282/250DR balanced and sounds fantastic.

demo upon demo upon demo when I was looking to move from up, source first and all the combo’s you suggest will work of course, the , most music from which one???

from my history
282/HCDR/200 was a lovely system - balanced and musical
282/HCDR/300 - onto another level soundstadge, drive
282/HCDR/300DR - as above but more focus seperation
282/SC/300DR - for me and my system that was superb. 282 was a delight as was the music

and now 252/SC/300DR - end game, for me the and my budget 4 black magic boxes

Shop around for some pre-loved/ ex-demo deals and get 252/300 - this is fantastic synergy, smaller scale version of 552/500 IMO.

Love those Perspex lids for the SBLs. I assume you have young children?

Just sold my 252/300 so know what it does, for some reason not the margins I expected in my new extension vs. old. Nova/250DR seems to work better without losing much ground, just different presentation. It still bugs me that (having optimised my mains) either set up sounds better at night than day - literally night and day  Love the Nova, too many boxes before…when the SuperNova makes an appearance then thats the route ill follow…maybe then revisit the 300DR?

There’s a lot of bad stuff on the grid day time in some areas. You might need something cleaning the power like DC blocker or other similar solutions. It helped me giving the relaxed presentation during day time too.

You prefer Nova/250DR over 252/300DR or you say the difference in cost didn’t justify the difference to you? I’m close to pulling the trigger on a 250DR to 300DR upgrade here :see_no_evil::man_shrugging:

I started with Nova and PMC 25,26, then added 250 dr, replaced by 300 dr…then to 252/SC dr. The performance of a 252/SC dr/300 dr is way ahead of any Nova combo in my room imo. The Nova is a great one box solution, but the compromises that inevitably were made do get shown up…by spending lots more money.
