No sound from the system, 252 mute flashing and supercap dr is unusually warm. Last night I added ndac to ndx2/555dr and was satisfied by the result. System was working perfectly last night but I wonder if during installation of ndac any cable was moved from its position. Checked burndy and all other cables and everything seems ok. What to do? I have unplugged supercap from mains for now.
Just spotted a thread but regarding a 282, maybe the advice could be the same similar? Try a search here.

A flashing Mute usually means a power supply is missing. I would carefully check the Burndy cable (check the pins are all OK) and SNAIC5. Then reconnect everything and power up. If you’re still getting the problem then you may have an issue with a supply in the Supercap which needs attention.
My 252 used to do that when the kitten squeezed behind it….
Power down everything. Unplug and reconnect all the leads carefully and power up.
When this happened, did you noticed a warm chassis on supercap?
Great reply, surprisingly from Grok, give it a try. Oh and would help to know where you are.

Tried connecting and disconnecting cables. Same thing happens. Noticed that when i turned Supercap on, it starts getting warm on the left side (looking it from the front).
Snaic5 seems to function because lights on 252 are working (mute still flashing off course) even if Burndy is disconnected.
So what to do from here? Is this a cable problem or power supply problem?
I will contact my dealer (Greece) to see if he can help to test cable with a spare one.
If Supercap is needing service and had to send to England, i wonder if now is the right time to service my 10 years old 250DR and send them together…
Testing the Burndy would be a good start. Do you have the ability to test for continuity on each end of it? Or see if you can borrow another Burndy from a dealer?
Service-wise, 10 years is a bit early for a Supercap; Naim suggests 12 to 15 years.
As for having your 252 serviced, personally, I wouldn’t bother. Mine is circa 2002, so a really early one. I had it serviced this year, after 23 years. I had Naim change the volume pot and logo (bleeding) as part of the service. But to be fair, I can’t say I can hear any difference. But at least I know it is done.
Naim didn’t spot an original wiring mistake. Apparently, it couldn’t have passed testing as it was. But it did, twice.
Thanks for the input, 252/scap are less than 5 year old, not need service obviously. I was asking for power amp 250dr which is 10 years old.
Again power amps are similar to power supplies, the big caps degrade. So i’d expect 12-15 years for a service on your 250dr
Being a fully regulated amp I would say that a NAP250 should really be serviced no later than 10 years, or as soon as performance audibly degrades (whichever comes first) as once things begin to degrade they do so far more severely with a fully regulated design.
Did you move 555PSDR from NDX2 onto nDAC?
Thanks for letting us know, for all we knew could be in Salisbury or a country with no dealer support, thanks!

No, i connected my ndac bare to ndx2/cd555 , it was easier without moving any already installed components, just added ndac to an empty shelf underneath ndx2. It was a brief test, just about 2 hours, ndac not warmed up. First impressions were very good, more detail, bass and presence. Overall better musicality. Next morning system silent. Anyways i was planing to try cd555ps on ndac at a later stage.
If you love what the nDAC does, you will absolutely be in love once you add 555PSDR to it.
Having the PSU on the streamer might add a little something, but putting on DAC adds a lot.
More detail and subtlety is exactly what nDAC improves on VS NDX2 in our system. The nDAC is known for bass weight. But the PSU is needed on nDAC.
There are also many who disagree, or don’t rate nDAC at all. Each to their own.
We’ve auditioned quite a few high end DACs now. Each is different, but improving on nDAC/555PSDR for musicality will require quite a financial investment.
Now, that to me is a big statement @Richard.Dane I was and always have been under the impression that a 250 DR should be serviced between 12 and 15 years ? If it is actually 10 years then that would radically reduce the “pre loved” prices i think. At the moment i am actively looking for a “pre loved” 300 DR, but a 3 to 5 year difference in the supposed service time would make a big difference in the price i and many others would pay. Is this just your opinion or is it well known and accepted within Naim insiders ?
It’s my opinion. My NAP250.2 performance dropped off quite steeply after around 10 years and was much better after a service. Of course that was a pre-production unit so perhaps not indicative of production or later units, but certainly I would stand by my statement that as soon as you feel performance has begun to drop then that’s the time to get a service. The fully regulated amps do not age as gracefully as the unregulated ones without service attention.
I’ve had my 252/SC/250.2 for over 20 years. I had them serviced and DR’d in 2023, not because of any performance issues, but just because of NAIM’s recommendations. Honestly, didn’t notice any issues beforehand or any difference after I got them back.
Given that this issue will take time to be resolved, i need a working audio system for next 2-3 months. So i realized that i have one! Owning an Atom HE and the 250 DR, i realized that i can combine them and have a working system. I dont have a connecting cable though. After a little searching i came to the conclusion that i need a double RCA to a single XLR (unbalanced). Any advise on this? Which one will be adequate?
