252 Sound Signature

How are you finding the 6 level stack @trickydickie with all Burndies? Might have an option for a 300 but are limited to a single rack and momentarily putting aside the fact that I have a 2 month old 250. Still just procrastinating and gathering thoughts about options.

As i like spending your money Mikeā€¦
@Antz posted this some while back of an lp12/ndx/282/300/hcdr/300 ps, so it can be done, might need some string etc to hold the burndy in the optimum position etc

Yes, I was rather hoping you wouldnā€™t see that postā€¦ā€¦ But, yes, thank you - most helpful.

He likes Pink Floyd and Yes, so thatā€™s a good start.

I struggled with 6 levels it just looked odd in my setup, but it doesnā€™t look bad in that photo.

@Mike_S

yes I think that photo was before I got SC for the 282

posted a more upto date photo - top level LP12/252/NDX/300/300 PSU/SC with the 5 shelves the brundy from SC ino 252 hang really well in tear drop with the SNAIC and Brundy slighlty touching

Thanks Antzā€¦ā€¦.looks really nice. Over to you @Mike_S a nice problem to havešŸ˜‰. When i moved from a 250 dr to 300 dr i was surprised at the improvement, a lot more authority. Considering it is largely splitting out the transformer/ capacitors from the amp section of a 250, itā€™s a big step up imo. Probably said enough.

Donā€™t think Mike needs any encouraging.

Iā€™m the eternal procrastinatorā€¦ā€¦

But you will appreciate the limited second hand market and over-priced new stock along with limited or non existent demoā€™s.

Sorry to mention @Mike_S the jump for me from 250DR to a none DR300 but recently serviced was huge, bags of authority plus a lovely low end grunt.

Oops, sorry @Mike_S - I thought the same as Gazza and HiFiman.
Very nice step up.

My six deck Fraim is OK, I feel a bit too tall but barring a room rethink, itā€™ll have to do for now. Having the Linn above on a wallshelf makes the stack a monolith. I had to reposition the Fraim out from the wall more to accomodate the 300 cables better.

It was a bit of a fiddle to put together but I was able to get all the Burndies off the floor and not touching and thereā€™s 5 of the little buggers. I rebuilt one shelf at a time being careful to dress the cables as I went along.

I do have the advantage of extra space behind the Fraim, being sited in a corner but itā€™s very doable as long as you allow sufficient space for them to hang freely.

My stacking order from top to botton is.

252
NDS
NAP 300 Head
SuperCAP DR
NAP 300 PS
555PS DR

As Iā€™ve said before, going from the already excellent 250DR to the the NAP300 DR was a great surprise to me and probably one of the largest upgrades Iā€™ve made and this was with a 282/HiCap DR at the time. The need for an extra shelf is a pain and needs to be factored in but I wouldnā€™t be without mine now.

Mike, I think you are moving at light speed, it was just the other day you had an integrated amp!

Good luck with your decisionsā€¦ pretty soon additional rooms added onto the house!

Yes Fraim, 252, 250, 555ps and maybe 300 in rapid succession

Heā€™s sure got it bad.

Hah, yes, well we have just finished the last of the renovations after 20 odd years! These have been timed for me moving to part time work and getting the bigger cost items done whilst there is income to cover it.

Yes, it is a bit crazy really. I just seem to be where @trickydickie was with an unexpected opportunity that rarely comes up. Off course, Iā€™m at a perfectly good place to call it done as it is. But the 252/300 always was my dream system and Iā€™d ruled out a new 300 as too expensive and Iā€™d never seen a used 300 for sale here.

ā€¦you only go around once and if the opportunity is good, hopefully a demo possible, then go fill the dream!

Worse case you live with the unbelievable fantastic system you already haveā€¦

After this period in which I suppose you completed the warmup @seakayaker do you consider 282/250 a huge or subtle step up compared to sn2?

ā€¦ I had first put a NAC 282 into the system and that was a huge upgrade over the preamp section of the SN 2. I was not planning on adding the 250 for six months or so but a used 2 year old 250 DR was traded in at my dealer a month or so after I added the 282. It was a lovely upgrade over the power section of the SN 2 but did not have same impact as when I added the 282. Donā€™t get me wrong adding the 250 DR was an improvement but the impact of the enhanced detail and improvement of sound when adding the pre-amp sealed the deal for me.

I hope that answered your question.

Same experience and fully agree.

Thanks of course you answered, you confirmed that the whole change is a huge improvement. My sn3 is fantastic and I cannot imagine a huge step up this is why I m planning to repeat your experience moving to your target. I think that with my atc 19 the 250dr will be a bigger step compared to sn3 power amp section. Atc are really demanding and I think that the bigger driving capability of 250 will be a solid return
