I tried it in two different places, router and cable can’t be bad. I am waiting for a response from Naim service, the problem is very serious. I think the entire software needs to be rewritten, not just the upgradeable firmware part.
I’ve done many of these updates myself as a firmware beta tester and I’ve never heard of a problem with a 272 like that you have.
I think you have a hardware fault in your 272 and it’s nothing to do with the firmware update, which wasn’t ever going to solve the issue you suddenly found when you turned the 272. Nor do I think it’s a software issue.
The 272 is going to need to go back to the factory for repair I believe. But Naim may have some suggestions to try and I hope they manage to sort it out for you.
I suspect that David is correct - this is a hardware fault with the power supply stage.
You could confirm this by trying an XPS/555PS with it.

Neil.
Thanks for the idea. Today I am borrowing an XP5 XS power supply, I have to travel 200 km for it, but I will try it as soon as possible and share the results with you. I am very curious and disappointed. This is my first Naim device, I didn’t think it would put me in such an uncomfortable situation. Because I want to sell it, I agreed with the buyer on Tuesday morning and turned it on before packing and that’s when the error appeared. I thought I was going crazy. It was working perfectly all the time before.
Dear David and Neil, 272 works flawlessly with XP5 XS !!!
Many thanks for your advice!
And I have a few more questions.
Is the 272 still safe to use with XP? Can I forget the error of the built-in power supply? What do you think, what do you advise? If I only use XP, is it worth spending on repairs? XP uses fully separated circuits as far as I know. The use of a built-in power supply is not so typical for Naim users. I informed my customer about the situation and he is open to this solution, he has XP for the 272 (and a dozen other Naim products) and he doesn’t care if the internal power supply is faulty but there are no other faults. I think that it can be repaired later if needed, and the estimated repair cost can be cut from the price of the 272.
Fixing the existing error is still a question and I am waiting for a response from Naim support. So that we can describe the error more precisely, I hope they can make an offer for the repair. I also asked the local brand service, but I haven’t received an answer yet.
The reason why the olive XPS cannot be used with the streamers, is that the transformer output is relatively high in comparison to the regulated output. When you combine this with the higher current demand of a streamer, the XPS really heats up.
The XP5XS however, has a bespoke transformer so it should be fine to use with the 272.
Most likely issue with the 272 internal power supply will be the fusable tracks on the main PCB. These are not replaceable & would require a new main board. Which are now unavailable due to the obsolescence of the main processor IC.
So using an off-board power supply is the best solution.
Please do not be tempted to perform a DIY repair on the 272 - I have seen the result of this & it’s not pretty. Using with the separate power supply will be fine.
Regards
Neil.
Neil, thanks for your help, we will use it with XP5 XS, this is an acceptable and elegant solution for the long term.
