2x555DR vs. 1x555DR on a ND555

:slightly_smiling_face:

Why? One thing you can fret over though is which PS to use for analogue and which for digital. Then which position/order in the stack. Endless fun!

I was recommended to use the new supply for the analogue section…does that make sense. Also on ND555 which is analogue burndy port???

Looking from the back panel side with the lid off the left burndy connector has feeds to the faraday cage containing the dac…digital side. So the right hand is the analogue, by my deduction. Thomas beat me to it, but at least we agree.

Had been busy recently with some other things, so I didn’t listen so much. But this morning sitting again in front of the system. And totally enjoying the 2 PS powered and again impressed by what I hear with a recording which shows a lot of the dimensions of the system.

I still remember when I heard the first time the 2PS powered NDS at the Naim Factory quite some years ago. The win on natural tones, bass quality, soundstage and PRAT was so clear to me through a statement, that I promised myself that I would once buy it when I had the funds.

Never have I had one day of regret. I would even formulate it like this. People having the funds should immediately run to the dealer and get their 2nd ps. You really haven’t heard your ND555 perform without the 2nd ps. While it’s of course still an exceptional source with only one ps…

Thanks for the info…I remember to this day the effect of a 555ps did to a 272 …my jaw hit the floor…I am hoping for something similar…I will feed back when all connected up next week

I can’t remember which way round I’ve got them now, but my retailer recommended using the new one for the digital, which is the opposite of what was recommended to you. I don’t really think it matters, but it’s something else you can investigate over the colder winter months.

I was thinking about this last night I think you are right … the run in supply should stay on analogue and the new one on digital…I think I will do it this way around…cheers Clive…

I couldn’t agree more!

I’d add to it, that isolating the ND555 from the home network is a step to consider.

I achieved the network isolation by using a fiber connection. No metallic connection, no electrical noise. Simple.

The next step, will be to to somewhat isolate the ND555 from the power grid, by placing an Airlink Balanced power supply or PS Audio Power Plant.

This is why I tried the Russ Andrews kimber Powerkord power leads…the evolution 500 made a really big difference…

Gazza…when I changed my ethernet for an Aqvox se it was a revelation… now I am not suggesting thats the only way to go … but something like the English Electric is an absolute must for you…I would be interested to hear how you get on…my etbernt is Cisco 3750 running to Aqvox SE …

Hi Rich…the ER was ordered a month ago from the U.S…should be here in November.

There’s a review of the ND555 with 2 PS555 in next months Hi Fi+ if anyone’s interested.

Don’t lose any sleep over this Clare, I can absolutely guarantee they will say that it is marvellous. I have never read a HiFi+ review of any product which hasn’t, it’s a joke. I only retain the digital subscription because I forget to cancel it every year!

Ok … phew :sweat_smile:I’ve connected it all up … and it all works… Ok! … old run in supply is on analogue…new supply on digital… 1st initial gut thoughts are … not a massive change … vocals immediately seem better … smoother and very natural …, stereo seems more liquid and natural - high frequencies are illuminated more (this could be a run in thing) not unpleasant … some more micro details evident. Bass is about the same at the moment … tuneful, punchy - I am expecting this to improve further with time. So these are my initial thoughts hardly fair - as everything was powered down - and the new supply was stone cold and new… I will report in again in a few days…cheers all!

Well hope it improves for you, as its a large outlay, if you can’t really hear much difference from the off
Must say i didn’t feel the need for 2, when i tried it, but we are all different.

But leave it in and then after a while just go back to one power supply as it only takes a few seconds to change a burndy over and see if you miss it, be honest with yourself and thats the only way really, this is what i did and couldn’t really tell, yes my system has changed a bit since then, and it might have made a difference with it now, but i have already moved on from that ship as we say.

But hope it all works out for you

I can hear a difference - but it is not ‘stonking’ its early days yet … voices and piano sound curiously so much better which I did not expect… in fact if you read Martin Collom’s review of the second supply - he like me did not find a big difference to begin with…time will tell…his improved over the weeks. Even now I am quite pleased … also my system hates being switched off… it takes a day or so for it to recover…

My experience with a second power supply is that it benefits the most to well recorded acoustic music.

It makes a nice and enjoyable difference with Pink Floyd records, especially the live ones, but where it shines the most is with recently recorded classical music and some jazz as well.

With the following pieces, the difference is simply stunning!

The Norwegian label 2L is probably the most awarded when it comes to quality recordings/mastering. They offer some worth trying free downloads.

Morten Lindberg records and masters everything in DXD, meaning you can get the exact master. I have some his productions, and they all sound amazing with the dual PS setup.
