300DR vs 500 (non-DR) - any opinions or experience?

An opportunity has come up to get a NAP 500. At this stage we believe that it’s non-DR (we’re also chasing down the service history so that I know whether it needs a bit of love).

What I’m wondering is whether anyone has experience in the difference between a 300DR and 500 non-DR? I’ve done a bit of searching on this site, but most comparisons are between DR models.

Sorry I can’t really answer you question but I did have similar thoughts. To be honest, by the time a service is factored in (At £1800 for the two units) I’ve pretty much decided to stick with the 300 DR. …Unless a real bargain 500 DR pops up.

My dealer always said not to mix DR and non-DR for what it’s worth. Probably makes sense for the pre and power amp?

Age and servicing of the PS is the main consideration I guess.

My 300 DR doesn’t feel it’s holding the system back, but the full 500 would be very nice, obviously :sunglasses:

The speakers you have might be relevant in the choice if they have very low impedance, as whilst the 500’s bridged amp design brings higher power it also inherently is more limiting at impedance goes very low.

Finkteam Kims - 8ohm nominal, and don’t go below 5.9.

And @Mike_S - I’ve been very happy with my 552DR - 300DR, but have always wondered whet a 500 would sound like. The obvious thing would be to get them up here and given them a listen to compare. Probably at some point over the next week or so I guess.

Sounds like a great plan, have fun.

I’d be very interested in your thoughts if you can do a comparison. Good luck

How did you get on @JonoB? I see that Real Music have one for sale now in Wellington.

My dealer has traded in a used 500 system (552/500) which is not that common in Sweden, he is asking £15000 for it. One wonders whether it will be an easy sell or not, hard to guess

15000 for both 552dr and 500dr?
This could be a steal …

How is the status of 300dr vs 500?
In my opinion 500 should win the game - even when dr/non dr mixed.

Yes, for both. I don’t know what the prices are like in the UK or elsewhere in Europe, but it seems to be fairly conservatively priced.

They have also 6m SL speaker cable which I am looking for… maybe they ship worldwide

Do not know their age. Are they DRed of factory DR?
18000 € for both is really good.
Make it so :wink::blush:

Chris from RMC is bringing it over on Tuesday afternoon. It’s DR’ed (yay), which means it’ll be a bit more spendy, but probably better in the long run. I’ll be attempting to fool myself that it’ll be a bargain because I (not if I) sell the 300 :joy:

…with the Powerline, SuperLumina cables and medium Fraim shelf in the price, it is a pretty damned good deal

I can ask if you want. I’ve tried the cable in question, and it was good, but not enough of a difference from my Phantom cables to justify (or maybe I was thinking that a 500 might come available…)

They are from 2013 so yes.

Yes, that’s what I thought too, and great that’s it’s DR’d too.

Lucky for you, I don’t have the readies for it :joy::joy:

Ok… a good deal!

When have been DRed and has it involved a full service as well (which I think ist is).
They do not come often outside the uk. You will love it. It’s a perfect match to the 552dr.

And please ask for the SL cable shipping
When you tried them. Are they non smoker cables and do the plugs have still enough tension?
