500 v 2x300 active?

Good to know you haven’t wasted cable especially at SL prices!!
My SL plugs are quite a tight fit to both the top or bottom box so no issue loose connections here thankfully. I have left mine connected to the top.

You might be interested to know that we decided where the greenhouse is going :joy: and also the approximate size. The budget is about an nd555 excluding the concrete base :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

500 v 2x300 active? I do not think one is better than the other … it depends on the size of your room or your acoustic room. It differs from room to room

I like to keep my wife happy

Concrete base costing extra must mean another upgrade allowable to balance the books…

Erm, no - am about six greenhouses behind after 552, 500, nd555, fraim and 808s all in the last three years …

Alitex make traditional style glasshouses using powder coated aluminium. My 6 x 3 meter lean to cost £15k about 13 years ago plus the groundworks. The stable it is attached to was derelict so it got reroofed and pointed. I then did the inside and have let it for 11 years now.

The ground level had risen over the years. Dug down and no depth to wall footings. Discovered recently that there were farm buildings with 6” stone cobbled floors 18” down. The site has been habited for a long long time.

Phew - just caught the thread before the two month limit…

Went to look at greenhouses today. Think we have chosen one but not put the deposit down just yet. We are (including cost of base, building dwarf wall, election and greenhouse including shelving) at solstice level :flushed:. Going to aim for next March ish for this to be done - 24 weeks lead time with greenhouse, not sure when our reliable chap can do the base, and don’t want the work to be done at the wettest time of year. I will put a picture up - but prob in padded cell as this thread has more or less run its course now I think

In other news, heard another 500 system at a friend’s in recent weeks which was v helpful in giving me a baseline to compare with what I have. Came away very happy with the sound of my system, so that was good. And the other system has a second 555!

Tim, you really ought to allow your understanding wife have the greenhouse she wants as you have the hifi you want. I do the same here in Norfolk and you need to understand just how lovely freshly grown produce can be…just as good as you favourite music especially when you are feeling peckish!!

But get the hifi first - agreements can be rescinded…

She is not having the greenhouse she wants! That’s too small so I told her to get a bigger one

I wonder whether 2x300 cm greenhouses are better than 1x500 cm.

I have no idea. I am very much not a gardener

TimOopNorth hi…We have about the same source and amplification I am currently with SL2s … It is important for me to know how impressed you were when you switched from SL2 to Titan 808?

Hi Meni

I never heard the SL2s with a 500 up them, so cannot compare directly. But what I can say is that the 808s sounded better (to me) with a single 300dr than the SL2s did active with a pair of 300 drs active. That wasn’t quite the case to start with as the 808s improved loads as they ran in (I had a brand new pair on dem and then chose a different finish so got another brand new pair at the same time as a 500 arrived) but when run in they were clearly better

And then when the new set of 808s arrived with a brand new 500 attached, that combination immediately sounded better (than the run in 808s with 300), despite neither being run in.

Oh and they have improved since then (probably both the 500 and the second pair of 808s)

So I think the 808s are a lot better than the SL2s. There have been a few ups and downs over the last seven months (though seem now more consistent) but the highs have been glorious. I sometimes describe the sound as joyous. A mix of delicacy and scale with great depth of bass and the sound spreading either side of the speakers (it seems).

In short, I am a big fan and have no regrets - but I will always say that your ears in your room are what matters
