52 & LP12 upgrade questions

I’m pleased that you are enjoying it J. The 52 just sounds “right” doesn’t it. Organic, fluid and flowing. Forget any warts and just enjoy the music :+1:

I would say that the Ekos 2 is a superior arm to the Ittok on any LP12 and will work well.

Try it first with rebuilt Troika or a Dynavector cartridge.

The Lingo 1 is very musical also and the combination will not be clinical.

I would suggest if you can, to do just one upgrade at a time. And see if you like it.

The problem I had when I got my Karousel done was the cartridge was sounding off at the time. The sound was transformed with the Ekos 2 and Dynavector XX2MkII.

The other thing that makes it difficult for me is I did bulk upgrades. The final main group of upgrades produced a stunning turntable, as it should, at extreme cost.

A few points worth mentioning:

My LP12 has never sounded clinical. With the latest upgrades it sounds highly musical, resolved, refined and detailed.

The Ekos 2 represents excellent value and whereas many say you should do Radikal and Karousel first, for musicality tonearm and cart priority made a huge difference to me.

I have had problems with my Ekos SE/1, but these have been resolved for some time now, at significant cost. I believe that the Ekos 2 could reoresent better value to you.

It helps when one can listen to various finished products of several stages, like demos at the best LP12 dealers, to get an idea of the various points of possible achievement and aspiration, and then work towards these points. My dealer also has two well-maintained full vintage LP12s around, several hybrid ones (newish decks with classic tonearms and power supplies), and obviously every current new level. Totally recommended to listen extensively to various decks!
