My 552 is setup for tuner, but when new selection is made from my iPad, Roon or my ripped recordings it always jumps to CD.
Have three Naim remotes and they are to no effect in playing from tuner.
You canāt control a 552 with an iPad.
Do you have System Automation enabled? If so, is it correctly configured for the ND555 to use the Tuner input (CD input is the default).
Adrian,
Thank you for your response.
Since Naim aged-out their better CD players I was forced to rip my entire collection on the Uniti Core and now access it via Focal Naim app, or with the assistance of Roon whose library system I find excellent. For all of this I live off one of several iPads for making selections.
My ND555 came with remote that could not adjust volume until āwireā was recently installed between ND555 and my 552.
I wonder if this connection moved the play function to CD button from Tuner button. I can get off my sofa and press the tuner button and all plays splendidly.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
This sounds like the System Automation setup needs to be changed for the Preamp Tuner input to be selected for the ND555. Of course you could also move the cable from the ND555 to the 552 CD input to solve the problem.
Richard,
Thank you for reading my posting.
Please for give my question, Iām music lover, not audiophile and not very good hobbyist. I love my 500 system with the fancy cables and extra power supplies because it sounds great.
I have no idea what āSystem Automationā enablement is. Sorry! Where I now live is a desert when it comes to Naim support.
It would be wonderful if Naim could offer a fee based service where one might Zoom audio consult.
Mikeyb,
Thank you for your input.
Is there an audio reason why moving the cable would not be good choice and doesnāt Naimās programing jungle require some kind of programing order for reason?
Thank you again.
You mention you have a āwireā between the ND555 and the NAC552 for volume control, so this sounds like you have it set up for āsystem automationā. By default it will mean that when you operate a function on the ND555 then via this wire it automatically tells the NAC552 to switch the input to the CD input. However, if you have your ND555 on a different input then you can change it to that input in the System Automation setup menu on the 555.
Zoom audio consultancy sounds like an interesting idea, but probably something more for a dealer. In the meantime, thereās Naimās own support desk which can be reached either by phone or email - details on the Naim website. Oh yes, and of course, thereās this wonderful forumā¦
This might be of helpā¦
As far as I am aware the line level inputs are all the same and therefore there is no disadvantage to using the CD input instead of the Tuner one. Quite easy thing to try and see if it addresses the issue?
Donāt remove the cable, itās needed for system automation. This is where you can choose preamp inputs via the app or the 555 remote. Open up system automation in the app and ensure that the 555 is set to the input you use on the 552. You will also see a list of preamp inputs, called preamp 1, 2, 3 etc. Switch off those you donāt need and rename those you do. You will then see ātunerā for example in the Naim app and can choose it there, or through the 555 remote. Just have a fiddle about in the app and youāll seen get there.
hi
i thought i red that the ND555 was better with all preamp entry opened, isnāt it ?
Try it and see. I could never hear a difference.
Hungry Halibut,
I imagined Iād need to bring in electrical engineer in to solve what you reduced to the simplicity of a nursery rhyme.
I followed your steps that couldnāt have been clearer, or easier and in 2-minutes a miracle!
Thank you very much and also everyone who stepped forward with their thoughts and suggestions.
Hungry Halibut, could I ask your current preference for Ethernet Music Streaming cable.
I recently added The Chord Company C-stream Digital Streaming Cable and result was transformative. I was so impressed Iāve thought about Chord Music Streaming Cable, itās costly, but so is everything else Iāve bought. Any brand is welcome.
Thank you very much

There was some talk that the CD input on the 552 was the best sounding as it is the closest to the boards. However, I personally prefer the tuner input. I find it sounds a little richer than CD. Also essential that you have the furthest tape input from your source input selected and on mute.
Geko,
Thank you for your suggestion.
For the moment my only source is ND555.
Years ago I sold off myLP12 together with my LPs and while I retain extensive CD collection my beloved CDS3 sits in its box hoping that Naim will consider a repair.Playback of my ripped CDs is very good, but the pleasure of searching my shelves and reading liner notes has left me bereft. Only lately have I searched my CDs and with that in hand looked it up on Roon.
Thatās fantastic. I was going from memory, as I sold my NDX2 and Supernait 3 about three years ago, and of course system automation works exactly the same on those as it does with your ND555 and NAC552. Many years working in local government finance taught me how to make the very complex seem simple.
I use Chord Shawline streaming cables and find them a nice balance; not too expensive and with a natural and involving sound. Iām sure Music is very good but itās somewhat out of my league!
HungryHalibut,
Thank you for your input, it really mattered.
Your experience with Chord Shawline has now been added to my audio ethernet short list.
All best!
