555PSDR vs. NPX300

@gk_audio Thank you. I currently have an NDX2/555ps/252 hence the interest in your comparisons and how you got to where you are today.

Whether I “stick” with OC or “twist” from OC to NC is being determined e.g. 333 or ND555. The 332 or 552 is a bigger contemplation - I’ve heard the 552 on several occasions and find it difficult to dislodge how eminent it sounded in the comparisons I heard at the time. The comments from @GraemeH and the whole move from OC 500, however, are very interesting.

Of course, I need a good listening/comparison session myself, but getting experiences such as yours (and @GraemeH ‘s) are always interesting to read, so thank you for taking the time to do it and report on it.

@gk_audio If I may, another quick question. You mention that the move from 252 to 332 was a “massive upgrade”. Which areas/elements stood out for you that might help describe what you heard?

(I also note that your later comparison w/ 552 might infer that at that point for you it really got down to personal preferences - is that a reasonable inference?)

Thanks.

I have documented the journey here: NAC 332 vs. 252. Surprised…
It’s not until post 100 that things get interesting.

Thanks @gk_audio

I demoed both on an NDX2. One is not better than the other, just have different sound signatures. Both released a lot of extra detail from the NDX2. I went for the 555ps in the end.

With a new series 300 system I would get the XPS 300. Don’t want to mix NC with OC.

No rule against mixing, trust your ears.

with the 300 psu you’ll get all the power automation working nicely with the other units and powering everything down in standby, the 555 will remain on 24/7

@Hollow when I am ready, I will do at least one NPX300 for my 333. I am not sure about one for the 332. I may do the power supply for the NVC TT instead. I believe in source first. Even with my new racks, I don’t have room for an NPX300 for the 332 and a power supply for the NVC TT. It’s either one or the other. It’s not about finances but availability of shelves.
