5G routers

I like Speedtest for the FTTC connection as the Zen connection is pretty solid unless there are more widespread issues with Openreach backbone. Speedtest generally gives me 74/18-19 which is pretty much at the theoretical max for the connection I’m paying for. Latency is around 10 ms.

We changed from FTTC to FTTP and speeds changed from 70 / 18 Mbps to 230 / 230 Mbps (down and up).

The FTTC was from BT and was incredibly unreliable with many drop outs.

The FTTP is from Giagclear is very stable and their customer service is excellent. If there is an issue, they let you know before you are aware of it. Whereas, with BT, you never heard from them.

We went with the 200Mbps package, but usually get around 230Mbps. They do go up to 900 Mbps and, people I know on this package get around 1Gbps.

When ADSL gives speeds of 12-18 download - I’d call that big progress ! All in our row of (very rural) houses have ditched wired broadband for 5G. If one mast goes down - simply move the router to the front of the house for a day or so until it’s fixed.

As to the download/upload uneveness - I got similar upload figures with Three. O2 are rather better at around 25.
