5si > XS3 > SN2

Not everybody prefers their Supernait with a Hicap, but yes, if you plan a move to separates it’s likely to be a useful purchase. Easy enough to resell if your plans change.

HiCap/HiCapDR and the nDAC seem to be two items that’ll always be easy to resell.

Hi, now TQ Black Diamond RCA but used to have TQ Ultra Black and those were also very good (however Black Diamond are better and there is clear sonic upgrade between them)

Thank you all for your answers and the fruitful discussion. I am happy to be learning so much from everyone.

@MROX I checked my speaker boxes and found the original rubber feet and spikes. Since I have a hardwood floor, I decided to use the rubber feet, which I installed on the plinth of the original speaker stands. To be honest, I haven’t noticed any difference. Could it be that the vibration and sound losses were already so low that the improvement is not noticeable (at least to me)? Or do you think it is worth using special (but more expensive) feet like yours from IsoAcoustic? Thank you.

@Tapp The cables you recommended are unfortunately somewhat exotic in the area where I live (Austria). I also checked with hi-fi sellers in Slovakia (where I come from) and Czech Republic, but I couldn’t find them available for borrowing (testing). Before I bought the Chord Epic X speaker cables, I did some research and chose them also based on what I could afford. I did this without listening to them first, which is true, but I honestly didn’t think that these specific speaker cables could be the weak part of my system. Do you have any experience comparing the cables you recommended with the ones I have? Thank you.

@Gigantor I read the information about minimum impedance in the technical specifications and talked to some hi-fi sellers, who told me this is true for almost all modern B&W speakers. To be honest, I do not understand this calculation, but what confuses me is the information that these speakers would need so different (and expensive) amplification. Could you please explain this issue a little more? Thank you.

@Blacknote @eakayaker I checked the QPlus Supports and the Nordost Sort Kone, but they seem to be more expensive than those from Herbie’s Audio Labs. What is the goal of this isolation? There are no moving parts in the amplifier, if I am correct. My wooden TV cabinet, in which the amplifier sits, is really heavy, and I think the Naim Nait 5si has rubber feet attached. Therefore I do not expect any problem. Or am I wrong? Could you please explain this to me a little more? Thank you

@spider Thank you. I would like to stick with the Naim integrated amplifier and hope to be able to upgrade it in the near future. I currently do not want to get rid of my DMP-A6, as I am really satisfied with its streaming capabilities.

@dmu Thank you for the advice. I am located in Austria but can also buy from Slovakia and the Czech Republic (or other EU countries). The problem is that Naim products are not widely sold here through the hi-fi network, so ex-demo units are rare. The situation with used but warrantied reseller units is even worse. I previously had a bad experience with someone who wanted to sell a used Supernait 3. He sent me an email (grammatically terrible but OK) with several photos and an invoice. The invoice turned out to be fake (edited with Photoshop), and I realized that if I ever buy a used product, it should only be with an audition only and preferably with (at least some) warranty.

Personal opinion, I think your rubber feet must do a fair good job.
Would the speaker setup still benefit from something like IsoAcoustic, I would say yes, but I could be wrong. There is no setup like another one so nobody can say without trying.

Personally that upgrade was something I had in mind but it was not a top priority. I waited for a deal to show up. I did the move and heard immediately an improvement.
If I ever work another setup for sure I will try it just to see. The benefits was definitely good enough to try again.

Don’t rush things unless there is something wrong, it’s good and real fun to grow a system slowly and appreciate music at each steps. :+1:t2:
Cheers!

I have a Quadraspire Q4 Evo rack which is the equivalent of the QPlus Evo, so I would expect similar results. Both racks and dedicated supports control resonances generated by Hi-Fi gear, this will result in a lower noise floor, tighter bass and wider/more open soundstage. The first time I placed the Q4 (the cheaper from Quadraspire) in my system I was shocked to be honest, I would have not believed it if I didn’t try it myself lol. Therefore I think you can easily understand why such a thing can be a key element in a Hi-Fi system, especially if you want to upgrade and extract all you can from your gear. Then it’s up to your ears to judge of course. I personally got a rack before moving up the ladder and don’t regret the choice.

@hifi_joe_1986 , Dear Joe, The lower the impedance, the more current (amps) (watts = V x I) or (P=I^2/R)it will demand. Others, please jump in when necessary. Your speakers are rated as having a minimum impedance of 3.1 ohms. An SN2 or SN3 may be able to get away with this, though their ratings are 8 ohms and 4 ohms, respectively. Meanwhile, the OC separate amplifiers are rated to handle loads of 2 ohms for a substantial time.

There may be nothing to be concerned about, though it is a lingering thought in the back of my mind.

In my case, my speakers are rated 120 watts into 8 ohms and have a minimum impedance at a bass frequency of 3.9 ohms, which I am prepared to live with. My XS2 performs wonderfully, though it is at the end of its capabilities. dBSPL = 84 dB. Had I done the math before purchasing, I would have purchased an SN2. Though I was overwhelmed by the sound of my speakers, I went to a NAIM Audio shop in Melbourne, Australia.

Inductive impedance = XL in ohms = 2PifL

I hope this helps.

Warm regards,

Mitch in Regional Oz.

If you like the sound of your system and you do not have an issue with SQ my advice would be to sit back and enjoy it.
The DMP-A6 has quite a bright/forward presentation (IMO) so combining with silver plated speaker cable and B&W speakers may (although this could be to your tastes) be very exciting but also fatiguing after a longer listening session.
I prefer copper speaker cable which NACA5 is. The Chord OFC speaker cable, I’m aware of, is Clearway X which I use in a second system and is actually cheaper than your current speaker cable so maybe worth a demo if your dealer stocks this. To be clear I do not think your speaker cable is a weak point, it all comes down to a matter of taste and what you prefer/like - this was merely a no or low cost option.

I bought a Hi-cap DR. Now that’s it.

I’ve been through quite a few Naim systems over the years and settled on an SN2 which in my humble opinion on the used market is the biggest bang for buck amp in the Naim range and could be had for around £1,500, if you like the sound you have now then you will love the SN2.
