I dismantled it over the weekend and redressed cables etc. now the left and right channels are reversed. I don’t believe that it’s the speakers leads although when swopped over the problem does correct itself of course.
I do have the Naim connection diagram and each Snaic cable is pugged into Socket 4 of each Hicap
Would swopping over the 5 Pin Snaic cable to each Hicap correct the channel reversal?
System is all mounted in a cabinet and it isn’t easy to remove, I’d forgotten just how heavy a 250 is, hence the question before I dismantle it all again.
Chris - also check that the polarity on the 'speaker cables is correct when you re-install – you probably know that the Reds tend to be on the outsides (of the 'speaker cable connections) on the rear panel (as well as being intuitively the wrong way around as already flagged). If you’re using NACA5, there’s normally a ridge on one side of the cable as an easy check.
Thanks to you both, it must be the speaker leads, difficult to check physically as they run behind a cabinet into ducting buried in the wall over the ceiling and down more ducting in the wall exiting as flying leads to the speakers. When I initially installed it all I had thoughtfully taped a piece of paper with “RHS” on one of the leads at the amp end. This of course could have been Right Hand Speaker or Right Hand Sockets viewed from the front of the 250 which would indicate Channel 1 (Left Speaker) so no help at all! Speaker polarity looks good thanks.
Best
Chris
A big advantage of Naim’s own SA8 plugs is that the sticky-out bit always goes on the outside, so you can connect by feel in situations when the back of the amplifier cannot be seen, and you can’t get the speakers the wrong way round.
Hmmm, two of my SA8s (on my 250s) have the single sticky out bit facing outwards, and the other two have them facing inwards. OTOH, the ridges on all four cables are on the outside, i.e +ve, and they are correct at the SBL ends.
Still confused. So does the double sticky out bit point outwards, or single, or is it just a piece of plastic and doesn’t really matter as long as the polarity is correct
The back part of the plug shows POS for the positive + (red) side of the cable. The design allows it to be flipped 180 degrees for the other cable connection where required.
Very useful for amps sitting on the bottom shelf of the rack where NAC A5 just doesn’t want to bend easily. Of course it can be forced into a right angle but I find a nice arch much more satisfactory.
