I know there is a similar thread running at the moment, but i didn’t want to thread hijack.
I have a pair of Focal Sopra N2’s which weigh 55kg each. The Gaia 1’s are rated up to 100kg per speaker and the Gaia ii’s are rated up to 55kg per speaker. The question is, do i buy the 1’s or the ii’s ? My gut feeling is to buy the 1’s because the ii’s would be at the limit of their designed range.
The next question is based on my floor. It’s a suspended floor that’s carpeted. Is anyone on the forum running Sopra N2’s on Gaia feet on a carpeted suspended floor ? Did the Gaia’s make a worthwhile difference to you ?
I guess that you are right, but I would email Isoacoustics and ask them.
I am not sure it posting a link is allowed, but you can use the isoacoustics calculator.
I have Sopra 2s and Gaia Is.
Note Gaia IIs are upto 54kg. Sopra 2s weigh 55kg.
Get the Gaia Is as they are correct spec.
Use carpet spikes. They are good isolators. A bugger to fit though for Sopra 2s. A 2 person job.
Yes, on the Gaia calculator they spec the i’s. I’m minded not to order the carpet spikes until i have the Gaia i’s fitted though. Anything to do with Sopra 2’s is a two person job
Second the recommendation on the carpet spikes, if you have a carpet with reasonable pile. It made a noticeable difference.
Actually, for £100 for 8 the spikes are really a no brainer…will order 2 sets.
I have a set I no longer use since change of flooring
At the price of the 1’s, i would certainly look at other options.
Like stack audio auva 50, 70 or push the boat right out for the 100
Just placed an order for a set of 8 open box Gaia 1’s for £850.
Looks like you’ve already made the right decision but I will confirm that when talking to ISO Acoustics they said the Gaia’s aren’t as effective when you get near their upper rated limit, so you should go to the next model up. My speakers are 3kg under the max weight & they said go with the next model up.
I have a carpeted, suspended floor (the joy of a new-build house). Whilst not running Sopras or speakers as heavy as yours both my dealer and PMC said to use Gaia when I described the issues. The change was astounding - the suspended floor had been resonating and booming lower frequencies and that was removed entirely. I may add Carpet Discs sometime this year. I hope you get similarly great results.
