A NAS Observation

The answer is because those so called specialist routers are sometimes older designs with less advanced MIMO antenna systems.
Modern up to date MIMO Wifi routers need to have multiple antennas in different polarisations… often these are designed onto a disc so as to provide the multiple polarisations within a plane and usually incorporated into the unit…
To have such a device with efficient antennas externally it would need to look like a spikey hedgehog with the antennas needing to point in different directions.

Thanks Simon, I was sort of aware of most of the reasons. I was looking into the detail involved in the multiple antenna polarisation a while back & it struck me that compared to the performance the ISP OEM’s have achieved with the impressive range & area footprint, what hope for Mr Average fiddling with his multiple sticks of getting an optimum performance.
I will admit to my question carrying a hint of mischief.

I took @Vlanibet advice and decided to try something different. Grabbed some Blue Jeans Ethernet Cables to replace the AQ cables. Makes no sense to me but they are much nicer in my system. More cohesive and keep my attention. I would usually get bored of streaming after a few songs but now my feet are a tippy tapping. Thanks!

So here’s I hope is a simple question. I need to extend an Ethernet cable about 1.5m are those little extender thingies ok?

I’ve them to break the screen in an STP cable (disconnecting the 2nd unwanted ground) It worked fine, but it didn’t sit well in my electrical engineering mind & I went on to other solutions, but yes it worked OK. People add other RJ45 connections in a network, adding a metre of “boutique” ethernet, network switches, LAN isolators, no different in connection terms to yer little extender thingies.

thanks Mike
