Active ATC’s in wall socket or not?

Do you prefer your active ATC’s plugged directly into the wall or into a (non limiting dynamics) power conditioner / block / filter.

How can a power conditioner / block / filter be non limiting? This sounds like magic, or does it have an internal energy source.

I notice no loss of dynamics with my Puritan 156 nor do I with a Plixir BAC1500

I would ask ATC what they recommend.

I suspect that a power block that consists of a heavy gauge power cord to heavy gauge internal wiring to quality outlets without any other components would be effectively non-limiting (and likely comparable to wiring up additional Romex and outlets inside one’s wall cavity).

I am interested in what people here do. ATC usually has more of a “keep it simple studio approach” than most of us hifi lovers here. They probably recommend to use the standard power cables as well. Better quality power cables make a huge difference with the ATC’s my set up.

Rather than a power conditioner, I think you would be better off spending your money on a dedicated hi-fi-only mains supply, ideally taken from a separate consumer unit.

Already have this

Then you don’t need a power conditioner.

It does not matter, if you have a dedicated spur, from its own consumer unit. If the noise is generated outside of your property and is on the same phase that you are being supplied with.

If you are determined to go this route, then my understanding the best way to separate noise from the home circuit would be a 1 to 1 transformer. Likely to be expensive, and large, a downside is mechanical hum so you will need a garage or something similar to locate it in so you don’t hear this. Supposedly more effective than a mains conditioner albeit at a cost.

There’re many ‘hi-fi consumer’ transformers available that do not require any specific approach except budget. Torus, Plixir etc.

Any hi-fi consumer 1:1 transformer would have a significantly higher impedance than the national grid, thereby limiting current transients optimal for best operation.
I spent half a day with the engineering manager of ATC at their factory before receiving my 50 actives. I asked and received detailed answers to dozens of questions, on the mechanics, magnetics, filtering, electronics and PSUs. Trust me they know what they are doing!
Shove the power plug into your wall socket and enjoy.

I have my hifi on a separate ring to avoid noise from fridge, hairdryer etc….

I use powerlines with my active 40’s but only because I had them spare so thought why not. One day I may get round to testing standard leads v powerlines…

I have been using a Belkin PF30 for over 20 years… Every time I take it off to try without, I have reconnected, no settling of the dynamic and she protected me the equipment from the storm more than once… (It detects the under and over voltages).

LOL you must have a very special relation with this Belkin to refer to it as a she

I’m French, it’s the translation that put she instead of it… :joy:

That’s exactly what I do with my active 40s. Never thought of doing anything else, just enjoying the music.
