Active compact loudspeakers for TV setup

With my TV connected to a Nac N-172XS preamp, I consider if some affordable compact active bookshelf speakers could be recommended.?

I have previously used a pair Proac Studio 110 with a Nap 155XS poweramp.

As the Proacs are sold (too large really), I’m looking to replace with some smaller active bookshelfs due to space issues need to work very close to rear wall, the Nap poweramp will leave too. Its a small room, 12-14 m2.

Budget is low - €500-700, wonder if any single-speaker system are possible ? I have seen Fostex offer some, are they any good ?

I don’t need deep booming bas, no sub needed, voices are important however. No other sources than N-172XS & TV will be used.

I’ve been looking at Thomann in Germany as supplier, but honestly have no idea what to pick.

Its an area I have little knowledge in.

Genelec G Two would be worth a look though I don’t think Thomann sells those as they’re marketed more towards home users and Thomann only seems to have Genelecs professional gear. The Genelec 8020 would otherwise be practically identical to the G Two but it’s missing some features more targeted towards home use like Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS) that automatically powers the speaker on when it detects a signal and off when there’s no signal.

Edit: Just noticed your budget and the Genelecs would exceed that.

Second hand Genelecs. Amazing sound and build quality for the price. In Finland, where they’re made, people use them as hifi speakers. They’re incredible value.i use them in a small home studio but also listen to music on them a lot. Very balanced without being too dry.

I don’t know about your budget , but QAcoustics make some small active speakers

Hi try a pair of Ruark MR1s. I use an original MK1 pair and they sound fabulous connected via a headphone type connector from a cheap HDMI switching box

Also, I’ve seen a pair of KEF LSXII LT wireless actives somewhere around €800 online in DE. Would be a very good choice with the 172.

How about Cambridge Audio L/R S?

They have more functionality than you need, but this gives there great utility value and, at £400, a bargain.

Multi colour options and the option to return for a full refund if not satisfied.

Yes, I’ve been looking at the Kefs locally, they seem nice compact and I am familiar with LS50 sound, which I like. Guess difficult to find LSX within budget.

Yes, I recall they did some small ones back then, maybe still in range ? Will look for them - my budget mentioned in original post and Q speakers might fit.

Thanks, no fan of their looks TBH, rear ported, would prefer front port or none port.

You’re constrained by budget and space it seems. And need a setup for your TV. Logical suggestion.

I’d sell the 172 and get a Sonos Arc and a sub; then start saving for an active listening system that you can put somewhere else. :man_shrugging:

Kef Coda W are powered speakers with no streaming (do have bluetooth) they are £800 sound really good (bass may be a bit heavy). Secondhand examples filtering through at around £100-£150 less.

I’d just go for a soundbar. The budget isn’t even at the higher end of soundbar.

Some are very good and have basic streaming support.

I think £400 is for the pair and, as I mentioned, the additional functionality improves utility value for other applications in your home as, inevitably, your desires and needs will evolve.

I have a Naim Unitiqute2 with active Focal Shape 65 speakers, on Focal stands. It sounds great on movies and casual listening in the living room. Couldn’t be happier.
