When it comes to Active are the NBL’s closer to the SBL’s or the DBL’s in sound reproduction? I’m asking this because I loved my two way active SBL’s but I sold them for a three way active NBL’s setup. Had a very difficult time getting them to sound right. Unless you’re touching the back wall the base is pretty well non existent. Are the DBL’s as finicky as the NBL’s when setting up?
I can only go off at a tangent here. I agree the SBLs in my experience are dependent on the back wall and the floor. (I was forced to move away from brick and concrete.) Their speed and articulation remains exceptional however and I opted for a subwoofer to replace that missing bass element and also go that bit deeper. I’m very happy with the decision. I’ve not lost the detail in the bass that makes my SBLs so good.
NBLs need to be close to a solid wall to sound their best. Active with 3 Nap 250s sounds very good indeed. I am sure the DBLs are in another league though.
With DBLs, the bass radiates forward into the room.
With NBLs, the bass drivers fire sideways.
If your photo is representative of your installation, then I would be concerned about the side-firing bass being lost into your hi-fi racks, especially on the left hand side.
We have NBLs in a large room and there is no shortage of bass to these cloth ears.
