I have a Linn/Eversolo set up with Naim amps. I am thinking of adding an extra set of speakers in the same room but at a different orientation (to work desk) . I am thinking of putting an AudioFlow (or similar) speaker switcher between my 2 NAP 135s and the speakers (Wilson Benesch Curves). My Question is… do people think that there will be a noticeable degradation in the SQ with such a switch placed between the power amps and the speakers? Also if there are better speaker switcher than the Audio Flow? Many thanks for any advice.
Hi, KitKat, Welcome to the forum with interesting question.
Has a HiFi dealer advised that this arrangement might work?
Personally, I would not consider this approach.
Have you checked the rating of the switch and the likely current load demanded from the loudspeaker from the amplifier that will go through such a switch?
In any case, the presence of the switch in the circuit will almost certainly degrade the sound.
IIRC @Dan_M of this parish has a speaker switching setup along the lines of what you’re proposing.
I use a Beresford switch. I have two sets of speaker cables from amps to switch. And then two sets of speaker cables from switch to speakers. It means I have two sets of Superlumina speaker cable. I have another set of speakers in the conservatory.
It gives me flexibility: it means I can use an AV amp and my 500DR in the listening room and then listen to music in the conservatory.
The Beresford switch is not powered. It is just a switch box.
Ditto. As an alternative, I would have used another smallish integrated amp to drive the additional speakers.
It will be interesting if the Audio Flow affects sound quality. It is powered and bluetooth wifi enabled.
The Beresford switch is unpowered and just joins cables together, allowing you to manually switch between two sets of speakers and two amps.
It works well for me and I cannot tell the difference.
If it is wifi and bluetooth enabled there could be more interference.
