Does AI bring something to the table here? Efficiency during creating? Or even a strong choice in tracks?
Two examples that were created based on my set up using two different chains:
Listen to the playlist Px8 Smooth Fidelity ⢠AudirvÄna Ă ND5 XS 2 Ă BTA30 Pro Ă B&W Px8 by frido1969 on Qobuz
Listen to the playlist Acoustic Pearls ⢠Naim à Lake People G103 à HD650 by frido1969 on Qobuz
Why not tell us your experiences? I would have thought it would purely a variant of the sort of thing some people have praised Roon for, supposedly analysing tge userâs taste - but others have not liked. All would depend on whether the AI âunderstandsâ a personâs music taste and preferences, ease of doing which will vary between different people, which can be challenging for a different human with actual intelligence. And if it doesnât seek to analyse someoneâs preferences then it is simply a variant random selection, whether or not contained by any defined factors.
There is a plugin for Roon called rooAIDJ that is effectively an AI DJ. So you say things like create me a playlist of the top 20 psychedelic songs from the 1960s that all made the US charts and it will create one directly in Roon for you.
I played with it about 12 months and it was OK but I didnât really feel the need for it. Itâs capabilities may have moved on quite a bit
Fair point.
The AI machine I used was ChatGPT. What does not become clear from my first posts is that ChatGPT first analyses specific characteristics of the set up chains. What I notice is that it uses the technical specs as a base to start from and then bring reviews of experts and users into the equation to define what you as a listener may expect where it comes to sound signature.
After that ChatGPT comes up with songs that according to itâs knowledge database may fit well with certain devices and the sound signature.
What also doesnât become clear from my earlier posts is that ChatGPT is also using the info from other chats regarding my setup and preferences in music.
The two playlists are fun to listen to. Especially considering the fact that ChatGPT provides attention points per song with the playlist to which one should pay attention.
All in all I find it a fun way to listen to the way my setup performs and get some nice new discoveries in music as well.
Short answer: No.
Long answer: Also No.
Just curious, as it doesnât become clear from your answer⌠Have you tried? And if so, what are your experiences then exactly?
But why?
Just another way of sucking the joy out of learning and discoveryâŚ
Irrelevant. AI has no way of understanding my taste and why I may love or loathe a piece of music. It can never, ever replace the experience of checking out music by flesh-and-blood individuals who share their recommendations based on their love of the source material.
Well, in my case it helped me to discover some new music which otherwise I may have missed. And it made me focus on certain aspects in the different tracks.
At this point I am not as negative as beforehand.
I suppose that means that you only pick up on recommendations that are handed over to you in person? Because if youâre picking up on recommendations from people that write in forums like these for example than you might be surprised that ChatGPT does exactly that. Scraping recommendations from forums like theseâŚ
Not for much of today it didnât! ![]()
Probably filtering out undesired comments then. Quite human like, isnât it? ![]()
I take my recommendations from a variety of sources online and while a genAI may scrape said sources it is a dispassionate, faceless, ham-fisted vomit of data that has no understanding as to why it is proffering me suggestions. When someone (online or otherwise) says âI liked X album because of blah, blah, blahâ I can make a judgement call based on the unique merit of the suggestion and the individualâs taste and its alignment to mine.
Algorithmic offerings beyond basic keyword matching to surface similar online posts talking about music adjacent to what I like based on my own curation doesnât interest me.
I think you may have missed todayâs newsâŚ
Out of interest I tried it, having found all recommendation algorithms to be laughably bad.
It did indeed help me discover music which otherwise I may have missed. The thing is, that music was absolute bang average sh@te.
There used to be nothing within AI which offer a viable alternative or improve upon your ears listening, your eyes reading reviews and views and your mouth having a conversation with a fellow music fan.
thatâs the internet!
You suggest that ChatGPT selects music according to what it determines is the sound signature of your system - that seems an odd and unreliable approach to me: There are many people who seem to have very similar or even identical systems, but their tastes in music differ. Personally I choose music for its ability to stir my soul, and while there is a connection in that I chose a system that plays a wide range of music well, that hardly defines what my taste is. I can understand it looking at music choices you have made, however much of that online might be traceable to you, or however much you identify in your question - and the more info it has, very much including things you donât like, and of course the less fussy or discerning you are, the greater the chance that it might come up with an acceptable selection. However if you want AI to come up with only music new to you, youâd have to let it know all the music you already know and like or haveâŚ
The more of AI I see the less I really want anything to do with it.
Weâre getting to the point where AI generated music is topping charts and video snippets purportedly depicting real people is so good it can be deceptive. I fear for the intended or unintended effect of AI as a propaganda machine for a multitude of views/causes/doctrines.
That depends on what news you are referring to. It sure is possible that I missed some (or even a lot) of that.
I think you are referring to the fact that it had downtime for quite a while today. In my case I didnât ran into trouble, but ofcourse everything technical has its vulnerabilities.
I only state what ChatGPT seems to be doing. Iâve not said anything about it being right. But in my case it wasnât far off either.
The songs of Eivør, Mari Boine and Lisa Hannigan I did not know and I really liked them. And I think they sound quite good indeed with the attention points indeed being recognisable.
I would never have come up with these as fast by looking and discovering all by myself.
As to where it comes to my personal taste I am very much still in charge. I can delete songs that I donât like or add songs that I do.
Bottom line the two playlists delivered something faster than I could have done myself. Is it as good as when I would have done this myself? No, because there are songs that I find less interesting. But it wasnât as bad as I would have expected either. Will these playlists become my favourite? I donât think so. But I definitely gained something.
So I think I personally benefited from using it in this case.
