Hello my Unity Atom HE is driving me crazy. Does anyone else have this issue or know of a fix. Anytime IOS updates I lose connection to my Unity Atom. I still have it showing up in my choice but it cannot connect error message shows. I have to do a hard reset on the atom to get it back.
It’s definitely not a router issue because I switched routers and same issue. Airplay can connect to all my other devices on my phone.
Here is the kicker. I change the name of my UA to music room and it shows up for a while then defaults back to the original name. Then my disconnect happens again after another iOS update. I am on latest update.
This might seem a strange request, but for the rest of us, we can’t see ‘your control point’, so latest update doesn’t tell us what?
Simple description of control point, ios firmware number since we have to guess you are in the Apple sphere, plus the Naim app version. That way, none of us will be driven crazy, as you put it.
Ios 18.4 Iphone Pro 14 is the control device. naim Focus app works fine to controlling the unit. Music player works transmitting to ny other airplay devices fine after every update. Unit was wired and is now wireless but that did not make a difference. Both devices on same wifi band.
Slightly
Yes but no location on it.
Bluetooth is on
Local network is on
And cellular data is on
I don’t know what you’re looking for.
Again I don’t think its the app because I can control all the other functions of the unit. Even play my USB. I just can’t use AirPlay after the phone updates.
Do you have any idea?
App version is 7.4.1
Sorry I left that out.
I’d suggest disabling ipv6 support on the Atom-HE.
In a web browser go to the ip address of the device. In example below mine is at 192.168.0.2
Click Network->Advanced->ipv4 only. Check it so green.
Restart the Atom-HE by removing power and restarting,
Best
Steve
What does DIAGNOSTICS show in the web browser for Airplay? It showed a problem for the Airplay authentication chip on my Atom.
Well I checked my iphone and ran a diagnostics. Iphone seems fine….HOWEVER, during power cycle the unity atom name changed from ny selected Music Room back to the Unity Atom with Sn. On phones second reboot I can bo longer connect to Unity Atom.
So it is NOT only updates but reboots of my phone.
I do not have any other devices connected to my unity atom. Yes Bluetooth works but not airplay.
I am beginning to think this unit needs to go in trash.
How do I run a diagnostic on airplay. I see nothing in the app and I even reset the app turn airplay off and back on. I need to reset again.
I think you need to follow @Stevesky advice earlier by connecting to your device from a browser. This can either be via safari on your phone or any browser on your computer if you have one
My ndx2 says the same - airplay works perfectly.
Yes well that didn’t work. It retained the checked ipv4 only but power cycle 1 time on phone and unity atom name changes on airplay back to factory default name Unity atom from Music room and second time restart of phone it doesn’t connect. The Unity Atom shows Music room on it’s display. Also on the app.
Question do you have DHCP turned down or off? Mine is set on.
So please note the time on the Unity Atom even though it is connected to the network IS New York is off. It off and not on UK time either nor any US timezone.
There was a place for a password next to airplay in the web interface that will NOT allow me to add a password.
So does that help?
You might benefit from the kind of extra information provided by an app called “Discovery DNS-SD Browser”, which summarizes all of the auto-discovery protocols being communicated on your intranet. As you drill down you can see the status of each device and how it is making itself available as a client or server or whatever. Two that are relevant for you and your Atom are _raop._tcp (Remote Audio Output Protocol) and _airplay._tcp (Protocol for streaming of audio). You can see if things are “ready” for connection and control.
Ages ago, I had an issue with my home network (using UniFi switches and wireless access points) where these broadcasts were not working across wired and wifi devices for some now-forgotten combination (eg wired Nova could only be used as an Airplay client when my iPhone was connected to the WAP wired to the same switch). It was resolved by tweaking the UniFi network and/or switch port blocking settings, and subsequently fixed permanently via Ubiquity firmware updates. In the meantime, running diagnostics on mDNS broadcast messages in a command shell was a useful way to see things coming and going… complicated and fascinating stuff, but only satisfying once tracked down and eliminated!
All that to say that there’s a whole complex world going on in the background, and the root cause of your vanishing capability to Airplay from your iPhone to your Atom may not actually have anything to do with an intrinsic issue in the Atom’s firmware or Airplay client functionality.
Good luck if you choose to explore this path, know it can be frustrating !!
First of all, you’re talking multiple switches having an issue. I’m only a single router and a unit.
I noticed that the router name had unity atom on it, and I changed it over to music room. I’m not sure if that’s gonna solve things and I don’t feel like rebooting my phone just to find out right now. I’ll wait for the next update. I did however, see that my wife’s phone was showing the unity atom name and she couldn’t connect when I couldn’t connect. This morning after I did the reset on the unity atom I noticed she could connect to the music room, the same as me. Now, if it was a Wi-Fi issue, I would think I couldn’t connect to the UA at all. But I can stream I can use every function possible. But again, what has me puzzled this wise the time off. And why is it after my phone gets rebooted it goes back looking for the name unity atom can still connect the first time until my phone is rebooted a second time. And why does AirPlay still work to connect to my other devices?. Through basic trouble shooting 101 it’s not the phone. If it was the router in an IP address issue, why can my phone connect to all device devices? And why can I connect to the UA and still control all other functions of the UA . So this is definitely a brain teaser.
When I went inside the web browser, it did say AirPlay and then there was a big blank that said password that wouldn’t allow me to type anything in there. Version 3.10.1 is the system version.
I’m thinking about getting a another device to try to stream AirPlay and have it just go into the unity atom and forget that functionality altogether on the UA.
I guess my illustrative diversion into why I had a non-functioning Airplay situation wasn’t helpful. I get that.
The idea was to suggest another diagnostic path for Airplay, which you requested… and the Discovery DNS-SD Browser app might be helpful to see what your network is doing for mDNS.
That’s true even with only a router and a unit. It’s especially useful because Airplay, and the way Airplay devices “advertise” themselves over your network is related to, but very different from, the ability to interact with your Atom via the Naim app or to stream to it from an internet radio station or Tidal or whatever.
Certainly if you don’t have a network wifi connection then Airplay can’t work… it’s a necessary but not sufficient connection. The router providing an ip address is only part of it, and you might want to read up on multicast issues, or on your router settings page look to see if you have anything related to IGMP snooping since this has also been problematic for some people in the past.
You shouldn’t need to type anything in the Airplay password entry field on the diagnostic Network tab, so don’t worry about that.
However, you might want to go to the Diagnostics tab and see what else has been set up… you should see your NTP server (almost certainly pool.ntp.org) up near the top, as well as your Region/Country (which should match whatever you selected in the Naim app under Settings) and the current time zone (again, this should match what you chose). If these things don’t match, then you have something more specific to follow up. If they do match, but the time as provided by the NTP server is wrong, then you have something else to look into.
So anyway, those are some other diagnostic 101 ideas for you to consider. Good luck.
Well you hit the nail on the head with the time zone. Not sure about the rest.
Airplay authentication chip OK
Playback not running ( unit is off)
Time zone is off and through my iphone wont allow me to change.
Region and country is correct
Pretty similar.
But different
Device Name
Check for updates
Input settings
Audio Settings (Shows Max volume headphone balance)
Music Server & location same as your example
Other settings (time zone, network settings auto standby)
Turn off display during playback
Remote control Motion detect
Note this is the HE edition and I am in USA.
And as far as the clock is concerned, I did toggle back-and-forth between another country or time zone and back to my own time zone and I did not change the time. But like I said, I did see that the time zone was incorrect in the diagnosis page and I do not know why it will not take the right time even though I’ve done a reset multiple times and I always choose America’s New York, which it shows for my region. But it shows America’s Alaska, which is the first for the time zone only in the diagnosis page like I showed again. Clock is not as much a concern as everything else. I also did name the unit correctly in my router. I’m not sure if that had any effect I’m afraid to reboot my phone and lose it again and have to go through this all over. I was just waiting for the next update from Apple.
It is odd that the time zone doesn’t stay set to what you selected because this is a setting made to your Atom.
I can’t compare settings with my Atom HE because it is being repaired under warranty at the moment to fix a problem reported by the diagnostics tab displayed via a web browser which reported that the Airplay authentication chip couldn’t be detected.
What does diagnostics show for Airplay? Here’s what it shows for a Mu-so.
