Amazon and the smartphone that never was

Did you try to go through Amazon’s online return process? It should be a case of clicking a few buttons. There is an option for “incorrect item delivered” and to choose either refund or replacement.

The obligation is for Amazon to complete the order correctly, though I expect that they may want to review it, given the high value.

Swapping of high value items is a known scam that has been reported in the press. I even recall cat food being used as the “mistaken item”.

They said it could take until 7th December before I get a refund. Terrible customer service.

I ask again, where are you? You could have massive rights, or none depending

Thanks @Nova good luck

I find the best way to deal with Amazon customer service is to use the live chat box. It’s somewhere under ‘contact us’, but not that simple to find. It’s a bit clunky because everything has to be typed in, but you get to interact with a real person and they will push it up the hierarchy if necessary. Keep pushing - they should have authorised the refund by now.

Allegedly rogue staff somewhere.

Yes, they’re probably quite red faced about the whole thing.

My disillusionment with Amazon is pretty much complete. Having been a victim of the bait and switch scam with a set of Bose QC Ultra earbuds ordered during the Prime promotion but which was a pack of spacers and washers I eventually got my refund. Then ordered the earbuds again at start of Black Friday promotion. The external packaging seemed fine and there was a Bose box inside. Perhaps should have twigged something amiss as no shrinkwrap but there was a tear off seal which when removed enabled me to open the box. Everything in the box….except the earbuds and dock… Return process started again but starting to feel like something very wrong with the Amazon supply chain processes.

After much communication Amazon have refunded me. I will not be buying high value items from them again.

I’ve tried to resist Amazon ‘Black Friday’ deals in recent years but needed a standalone heater so ordered an oil based heater at maybe a 40% ‘discount’. It arrived promptly today but the metal fins are buckled with no visible box damage in those regions.

Doubt the dents will affect performance but I’m not sure I can be bothered to go through a return process but it should have been packaged better, probably by the manufacturer.

Last minute I actually ordered some Black Friday offers for Mrs AC - one is exactly the same price after the offer ended. It’s all a con.

Why resist? There were loads of deals. I bought a filter jug 20% off that’s never on offer, cat litter that’s never on offer, hifi isolation feet, new tv which amazingly had an extra 20% off the the already discounted BF price. Loads of genuine offers. Just got to keep your eye out.

Why resist? Sometimes there are items I’ve been planning to purchase so it’s a good opportunity to get a discount if there is one, but not infrequently I am tempted by an apparent bargain I don’t really need. There are several things I’d actually like to get but find it hard to justify currently.

Also it’s been a hectic few weeks for a variety of reasons, so maybe hadn’t been keeping an eye on a few potential purchases before the sale started to know if they were decent discounts or just a few % cheaper than normal price. I don’t think the deals are as good as a few years ago though admittedly there are some very good offers if you catch them. Bought a Shark cordless vacuum in the ‘Prime Day’ sale at around £200 off, even cheaper in the Black Friday sale - I nearly bought a second one and could almost justify it to get a second battery/charger/filters and wands/accessories in case any break as the items individually would likely cost much more (and many seem out of stock).

Probably just a bit grumpy about the dents in the radiator fins (a reasonably common complaint looking at reviews), as well as having to make more returns of faulty items recently than over a couple of decades as a customer - at least so it seems.

Bought a new phone from Laptops Direct - cheapest place I could find…

Not heard of them before.

Amazon refund on their second fail with Bose ear buds finally credited so I am now all square. Having acquired a pair direct with no issues shall stay away from Amazon for a while!

Interesting deliveries today, requiring a one time code.

3 items purchased yesterday - got an email saying delivery would be between 2.30-5.30pm so went out.

I then discovered that 2 items had been delivered to ‘The Mail Room’ and had been signed for by ‘Bin’.

One of these was £30, the other £190. No code required it seems. Both resting on dry leaves in the garden refuse wheelie bin.

Got a call on the landline (a first in ages) from the delivery courier a few hours later saying he’d been unable to leave the third item (£170) in the garden waste bin as it required a one time pass code. The crazy thing was that this was a SIM card in an envelope which could easily have gone through the letterbox!

For two days I had deliveries dropped over the gate. The second time they were reported as handed to resident so no photo was needed. The thing is that Amazon can track exactly where the driver is. I tried reporting the problem with chat service. Given that AI can understand quite well, it was surprisingly dumb!
