Ambient Noise Level?

I have a Radio Shack sound level meter and it mimics the Decibel X app the last time I compared the two.

The typical ambient noise level in a single-family home ranges from 30 to 50 dB, depending on factors like location, time of day, and household activity.

Here’s a breakdown of common noise levels:

30-35 dB: Very quiet home at night, little to no appliance noise.

35-40 dB: Typical background noise in a quiet home (e.g., distant HVAC noise, faint outdoor sounds).

40-50 dB: Moderate activity (e.g., conversation, running appliances like a refrigerator or HVAC system).

50+ dB: Louder environments with TV, kitchen appliances, or multiple people talking.

If your home has well-sealed windows, good insulation, and minimal outside noise, you’re likely in the 35-40 dB range most of the time.

I’m at 25db right now lying in bed at 4am.

A little note here, just because its “new enough” doesn’t necessarily mean it doesn’t need calibration/or is in tolerance. It depends on the brand/quality of said sound level meter, there are lots of brands out there that won’t actually be in the manufacturers tolerance even when new.
