Here’s Amy performing her version of Valerie, originally recorded by The Zutons, at Glastonbury 2007. She performed twice at that year’s festival, once on the main stage and later on the jazz stage. At the end of the set she is seen embracing Blake Fielder-Civil, who was largely responsible for her descent into drugs.

I think Amy’s drug abuse is more rooted in her past than with BCF as odious a character and as easy a scapegoat as he is.

This Oscar winning documentary on the life of Amy Winehouse is being shown on Channel 4, this Friday, 9 July, at 11:05pm. It’s a moving documentary which doesn’t seek to attribute blame, but is quite revealing. It’s definitely worth setting the recorder for.

Seeing her at Glasto 2008 has always clouded my opinion. We were quite close to the front of the pyramid stage which maybe made the whole thing a bit more ‘uncomfortable’. We left after three songs to seek out some genuine Glastonbury vibe at the acoustic tent, added to which Jay-Z was on after her!!

I think it was the fact she didn’t seem bothered that had most impact, it ain’t the drugs … Jack White was flying 1000ft above Somerset but one of the best I have seen.

Yes an excellent film it did make me very angry to see the media treat someone clearly in trouble the way they did, disgusting.

I have edited the above post. The date of broadcast is FRIDAY 9, July, not Thursday.

I’m amending the post above to include some of the general public too and if the documentary is to be believed her Father Mitch didn’t cover himself in glory either.

Friday 23 July marks ten years since Amy died.

BBC2 will be showing a documentary called ‘Reclaiming Amy’ at 9:00pm. This will include recollections by her mother, father and friends, revealing the impact her death has had on them. It includes unseen family archive and rare performance footage. It will be interesting to hear what her father, Mitch, has to say.

This is followed at 10:00pm by the Porchester Hall BBC concert. I assume this is the set which was included in the At the BBC original DVD set, but whatever, I’ll be setting the recorder for both.

Thanks Clive I’ll set my alarm. I too am interested to hear what Mitch has to say as I think I’ve said before the excellent Amy film didn’t paint him in a good light at all but of course there are three sides to every story.

Just looking through the Radio Times, I notice that once the Amy coverage concludes on BBC2, BBC4 continues with The Day She Came to Dingle at 10:30pm. This is followed by Classic Albums: Back to Black at 11:30pm and then Amy Winehouse In Her Own Words at 12:30am.

That should all help fill up your recorder.

And if you’ve not seen it, her two appearances at Glastonbury 2007 are available on BBC iPlayer until Wednesday at 10:00am.

@Dreadatthecontrols alerted me to some Amy radio listings:

BBC Radio 6, Saturday 24 July at 6:00pm

Juliette Ashby recalls her friend.

BBC Radio 2, Sunday 25 July at 7:00pm

Jo Whiley will be playing material from the BBC archive, as well as Amy’s 2004 Glastonbury debut.

Didnt know we had a dedicated thread…

I caught Pete Doherty reflecting on Amy on 6Music this morning, it made me quite sick, unless I’m mistaken and misinformed, a lot of our sensationalist tabloid media may be to blame, but I thought he was a malign influence and largely responsible for getting her into drink n drugs.
Also as I think Bob has alluded to earlier, Mitch was exploiting her too I believe, in an earlier documentary some years back I recall footage where Amy was confidentially seeking secluded respite on a Caribbean Island away from media attention etc and unknown to Amy he invited the press much to her upset. Despite her upset Mitch pressured her to face those media hounds
So it does trouble me to hear these people now mourning her and Mitch talking of putting out some archive material of her prior to fame “for the fans”

Yes, you’re right. That’s why I’ll be interested to hear what Mitch has to say in the Reclaiming Amy documentary this evening. He does seem to have exploited her legacy.

I wasn’t aware of Pete Doherty’s involvement - he certainly led Kate Moss into drugs. I understood it was Blake Fielder Civil who introduced Amy to heroin.

I shouldn’t be negative so I think I’ll just stick to listening to the music. The faux mourning, respect and adulation coming from certain individuals and the music industry in general who didnt appear to give much of a toss at the time sticks in my throat.

As a fan of Reggae music, I’m having this

The song written by Toots Hibbert and featuring Rico Rodriguez two other legendary figures sadly departed

I really struggle with these anniversaries and commemorations of people who have died, at a younger or any age for that matter.

It often prompts mawkish or hagiographic filters with which to view the dear departed.

It’s not a view about Amy Winehouse especially, more a general dislike and distaste for what usually turns into over reverence. Or worse, an unpleasant blend of prurience and blame disguised as searing psychological insights into the private life of others.

Remember and respect the music and life, yes of course, but when it becomes something greater than it’s constituent parts I think it traduces the work or the person we’re being cajoled into supposedly honouring.

Can’t we just leave all the family and ancillary members alone?
Plus, shouldn’t the editors and producers of these ethically dubious programmes be more weary of triggering the very instincts that often lay at the heart of the demise of the person they wish to “honour”.

Another layer of commercialism is added to the whole sorry affair.

Or as Chris Morris put it to Andrew Moreton, when interviewing him about his Princess Diana book, aren’t you just feeding off the carcass?
