I’m now the proud owner of an nDAC – but I can’t hook it up!

I thought I had a cable to connect my ND5XS2 and the nDAC. Unfortunately, that cable is not configured in the way I need.

If I’ve read the forum and the manual correctly, I need a cable with a DIN output from the streamer and RCA inputs to the DAC. Or, maybe, RCA to RCA would work?

Have I got that right? And where would I buy such a thing?

Until I do, my new nDAC makes a delightful paperweight.

BNC coax from streamer to dac.

Din to Din for Dac to amp.

Set BNC as output in streamer settings.

Thanks Neil. Two more questions:

Is that BNC better than RCA to RCA, or DIN to RCA?
Where would I get hold of this thing?

Pretend you’re talking to a 4-year-old. A slow-witted 4-year-old!

Some pictures in this recent thread which should help (and is just as @Neilb1906 has described)

The Naim DC1 cable works well - other lower cost cables are available

The naim DC1 (BNC-BNC) is excellent. We got ours used at a high discount on new price. Couple available on a well known auction site just now.

Others have reported good results with far cheaper alternates, such as Mark Grant cables (£30).

Thanks gentlemen. Next dumb question: The rear panel on the DAC suggests (to me, at least) that the cable needs two connections at each end.

Or is that saying the DAC can take two separate BNC inputs?

Correct.

I think the penny has dropped. Many thanks, James.

Your nDAC should have come with the DIN-DIN cable you need to go to SN2?

Yes, it did.

Great, have heard of some used items shipping without.

You need BNC connectors both ends.

Don’t use BNC/RCA adapters.

Not suggesting this as a recommendation, but google for example “the cable company analysis plus black digital cable”. That is 75ohm and allows selection of BNC connectors.

There are lots of alternates, sure you can find one local to you.

The DC-1 (BNC-BNC) gives a marginal improvement over an Amazon Basics phono-phono, but not 450 quids worth ( and before anybody asks YES, I have both, and have compared them! My streamer has both types of output connector)

Nobody in their right mind would pay full RRP for these cables!!!

Patience will get a DC1 for well under £200.

Quite….and I paid less than your figure!

I think ours was £180, mint and boxed, inc delivery. Very happy with it for that price.

If we needed another I’d be using the “best offer” on the auction site to try the two currently up - for even less of an opening offer!

It would probably make little, if any, difference to use a cheaper cable as long as the terminations are good quality. But there’s some peace of mind knowing you’re using the official piece of kit.

Or a cable with BNC one end, RCA at the other end.

We chose to use input 1 and BNC based on an old forum thread

I do like the look of the Black Digital Cable with BNC at each end, currently selling for $80. I’m itching to buy but will wait until I’m sure I’ve considered alternatives.

There may be other forum members in USA who can recommend good options.

Patience!
