Another passing, RIP Benny Golson

Benny Golson has passed away.
I still love ‘Killer Joe’ and ‘I Remember Clifford’

‘Blues March’ I listen to test my system.
He had a few tracks featured in the movie “The Terminal”

RIP

Sad news. I did see him play a free open air gig with his quartet at Lincoln Center, NY, about 30 years ago. I think I saw him at NorthSea Jazz too. He had a stellar career as musician and composer - RIP.

Pretty sure that this is the NorthSea performance by Golson that I saw - back in 2006.

Clifford Brown tribute with Eddie Henderson, Randy Brecker, Mike LeDonne, Buster Williams and Al Foster.

I enjoyed the music from the Art Farmer period and Blakey but (as you might expect) latterly I found it difficult to follow his muse. But a good long life.

I live in Harwich so the North Sea Jazz festival was closer than the RFH or Barbican. I can see Stena’s terminal from my bedroom.

Sonny Rollins is now the only survivor from this famous 1958 photo.

As you can likely guess, I’ll be listening to Art Blakely and the Jazz Messengers tonight.

Sad. “Gone with Golson” playing as I type.
