The reason for the pre is due to primary earth . So they actually earthed your pre which is good .. if I am not wrong .
Bought SCM20 but in the end still preferred Eaton so 20s are sold. Even my NAP500 felt bit underpowered IMO. Music just flows much better with Eaton + NAP500. And I missed too much from what Eaton do so well with the 20s. So still looking for the next speaker The below sums it up very good (not my text)
I went from a ATC SCM40 to Tannoy Turnberry SE. It was not an upgrade effort. I just had relocate to a different city so I sold my ATC (with a heavy heart) and bought a Turnberry SE (just took a chance after some auditions). Contrary to what many will tell you, they are more alike than different:
1. They are both very very neutral. Yes, Tannoys are very neutral when driven by good high current amps. But people normally drive Tannoys with more colourful (soulful) tube amps and in the process lose some neutrality and transparency. Drive the Tannoys and ATC with a quality class A amplifier or say something like the ATC SIA-150 and you will hear both of them doing terrific in terms of speed, transparency and tone.
2. The ATC is a bit more neutral to tone but is also drier than the Tannoy. With the Tannoy the timbre is more wet and audible. You can hear a more breathing guitar with the Tannoy whereas ATC will sound more straightforward. To me, Tannoys sound more realistic whereas ATC sounds more accurate (slightly academic in comparison).
3. In terms of dynamics the ATC is amazing. It is more dynamic and effortless than 95% of conventional speakers out there. But Tannoys are partially horn guided and that shows! The Tannoys are even more effortless! Those big drivers do scale and dynamics in a more natural fashion. Those horn guided tweeters bring the bells and triangles more into the room and closer to the listeners, more live I would say.
4. The bass of ATC and Tannoys are different. ATC is drier and punchier, more pistonic. Tannoy is juicier, more wholesome. Kick drums sound more exciting via ATC due to that outright punch, double bass sound more engaging through Tannoy because of the texture and tone which makes it feel more like a real instrument in the room. Just that one needs to understand, while Tannoys sound wonderful with a 30 watt tube amp, if you want it to rock and groove, give it more power like you give the ATC.
*5. In terms of outright transparency the ATC is better. The Tannoys on the other hand is more coherent and sounds like a point source more readily because of the concentric drivers. When I moved from ATC to Tannoy I knew the ATC could sound more transparent but the Tannoy was also very transparent so I did not miss the ATC. By the way when I listen to a well setup active ATC I do not miss the Tannoy either. *
*6. The Tannoys are more forgiving but they are not coloured. They are just a bit more natural sounding while ATC is a bit more surgical in its approach. But it is really not something to be worried about. ATC is not clinical or surgical in absolute sense. It is only a bit more surgical compared to a Tannoy Prestige. *
Big drivers by law of physics do some things that small drivers cannot do and vice versa. But when well implemented big drivers and small drivers come very close to achieve the same sonic goals of the more realistic music reproduction. Tannoy and ATC are an example of similar convergence.
Yeah something like lowest impedance to ground best for preamp.
Interesting that NAP500 runs out of steam. Were they used before?
My good friend has Stirling SE and I fully agree with the big driver thing, and higher sensitivity that comes with it. But one also needs a big enough room for them.
They work best with tube amps as the tweeter can sound edgy in my experience. Hard to find a match but sound very good with proper electronics.
Good luck in your search
Your friend is perhaps @Suedkiez ?
I’m the Sehring fanboy, not Stirling
Used before yupp It might be Eaton being so dynamic and effortless which made them feel like this. But it is also well known that ATC need lots of power to feel relaxed and at their best. NAP500 has a lot of current but still limited to 2x140W. I also lacked the body of Tannoy. 10" drivers do some things that a small driver cannot. Physics. Anyway, SCM20s are super great at what they do so no complaining. If keeping them I would have added a sub to give them bit more body and drive. I would love to have a mix of what Eatons do well and SCM20 do well in the same box
Did you try the KEF R3 reference at some point too I seem to remember? How were they?
Nope not tried KEF but it’s on my list of speakers of interest (KEF Reference 1).
You should try out borreson .. pairs well w ansuz .. same company , both speakers and cables R&D together , including aavik.
When borresson was w raidho , they used nordost Valhalla and Odin for the top tier in the speakers …
Wonder in his own speakers , did he use ansuz in them
Would be interesting hearing them
You’re staying with your Dynaudio Confidence 1? Have you compared them to anything else?
I do like the borresen , but they need bigger room, the design of borresen cabinet / speakers are cater to big room, even for the bookshelf .. and they play loud.
My C1 has serve me very well , no temper at all . But I would love to have a 3 way speaker .. and I am hunting for one . Many items in the pipeline.
Yes I do.. comparing them to the peers eg diablo , raidho , borresen , duette 2 .
A friend of mine (that also use lots of Ansuz cables) has used some Dynaudio but then moved to QLN Prestige 3 and finally to KEF Reference 1 and never looked back. Many speakers to choose from out there
The size of the room is important. I had a pair of Borresen Z2s that were too much bass for my room, not on all recprdings but some bass heavy ones, had to go. On the other hand, my 01 SSEs are spectacular in not a large room, however it is very open to other other areas. Whether playing low level or loud volumes they are spectacular, never overpowering just realistic. The Borresen 01 SSEs would probably work pretty well, also the Z1 (if you can find some) or C1 monitors are pretty darn good for the price and might fit your environment very well.
Well just a few days in…
First thing I noticed was an improvement in the bass, there is more definition to for example the strings of a bass guitar, reverb (harmonics?).
Voices are better, seems there’s more “chest” or air in them.
Also the soundstage or maybe beter explained: there is more room around instruments and voices so placement in soundstage is better. Note: not earth shattering, but a nice improvement nevertheless.
All in all satisfied with purchase. Thinking about replacing the titanium balls between the amp and streamer for Tungsten also as that seems to make a difference in how the whole Anzus Dark/Axxes noise seem to work best.
From Ansuz.
" All RJ45 connections are absolutely equal, so you can use any of them as input or your preferred output.
Some goes for the TC Linkz outputs (powered 3.5mm connectors). Please notice that they are designed to be used together with our Ethernet cables."
Latest purchase was X2 Jumpers from Ansuz. I have Nordost Norse Jumpers and Chord Super Sarum from earlier on. The build quality of these X2 Jumpers is as always bad ** great!
Ansuz X2
Chord Super Sarum
Nordost norse 2
I was wondering about the linkz cables, thanks for sharing. I plan to recorder my ethernet and linkz cables today as per the diagram shown above. I’ll then do the same for the power cables and share any impressions on potential differences in SQ
So the marketing pictures are only that, marketing…
Yes I assume an illustration of what kind of devices you can connect to it. I would still connect the most sensitive cables furthest away from the power cord following the rule of keeping power cords and low voltage signal cables apart.
