Any ideas?

From the first time I heard Naim stereo system I was hooked. It was in my price range. Over time I heard different components of the Naim sound. I bought into 32.5, HiCap, 135’s. These are all CBs. My sound transport is a Linn Axis turntable with Akito Arm. I had a Rega Planet CD player moved to a Rega Apollo - R CD player. Depending on my mood I power up Naim Credos, or Royd Minstrels. I know there is purer sounds out there, but I must stay within my retirement budget suggestions.

Welcome to the forum Rodaja.

That’s a lovely CB setup you have there and Credos or Minstrels likely work really well on the end of it. It seems you have a question for the forum, but I’m unsure what it might be. I think if you are looking to upgrade then the weakest link would be the Linn Axis and I would start there.

Thin end of a very thick wedge.

As you enjoy your system, why not get things serviced, if needed, and then buy more music?

I agree with Richard that the Linn Axis is an obvious weak point and really not up the job of driving your amp. The obvious upgrade would be to an LP12. I’m not sure if you are looking to change your entire system to something different but I would say that what you have takes a lot of beating for sheer musical enjoyment. Personally I would just get an LP12 and a better CD player.

Hi @Rodaja

What does “purer sounds” mean to you?
It will mean different things to all of the forum members.

If you Google Cymbiosis Audio Consultants you will see that they can build a LP12 to a persons budget. Might be worth contacting them for a chat.

Never, ever sell them. Have them serviced, take care of them cosmetically, check the wires and be happy for life.

Are you not streaming and if not why not? Would you consider adding this rather than changing anything else?

Hey 70’sPete on my side of the pond there is agreement on your point of LP12 and CD. THX Rodaja

REALLY!, I am going to check this out , or look to rega for record player. THX for the info.

This is what I heard and will do for sure. It took me a while to invest on “naimCBs.” Will keep eyes and ears open for insights to the system I have.

I have not had a chance to research the advantages of streaming. I am a Canuck and like all Canucks we wait to see how things playout. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

What is your gears recap history? Huge uplift if due.

Welcome Rodaja, 32.5 is a fine Pre-amp, difficult to beat, but will benefit from servicing every 10 years or so, like the rest of your kit. The Axis, however, needs to go, as you have suggested. You need a good dealer who can let you compare turntables within your budget. Don’t forget, you can also try second hand decks from dealers such as Moorgate and Cymbiosis; Paul, and Peter, respectively, will be able to help you out and can build LP12s from a combination of new and pre-loved parts, even an Aro, if you are very lucky!

Thanks Roger for the recommendation. To build a LP12 got my curiosity up. Will check back after visiting the hear builders. THX Again.

I went from an Axis to an LP12 via the Cymbiosis route. At least part of the Axis lives on though, in order to help with the budget for the upgrade Peter moved the Basik+ arm and the lid from the Axis to the replacement LP12.

Very happy with the upgrade.
