Wow, 50 minutes of my life I’ll never get back.
I will openly admit to speeding my way through the second of these videos as it was just too much. A level film criticism for beginners. Ironically, people who need to be banned from using film as a medium.
The first of those two videos was next level though and not in a good way. I strongly recommend everyone who watched The Odyssey, regardless of your thoughts on it, to watch this video. Who knew that such pretentious self-absorbed and condescending twa€s still existed. 25 minutes of a bloke who clearly thinks he’s the bees knees attacking the film, Nolan and the audience. Someone who believes that you only like The Odyssey film because you’re young and thick and haven’t seen enough truly great cinema. It’s not your fault though because it’s Hollywood wot dumbed you down and made you stupid. Best of all the idea that our YouTuber loves art so much more than you plebs that you just can’t ever know in your ignorance why the film is bad because you have no references and can’t possibly like it if you’ve seen x, y and z because you’ve never seen a, b and c and… what the actual fu&k.
Hidden in there are the basics we all know. Poor script. Americanisms. Dark colours. Simplistically epic not truly epic. Blah blah blah. These points are lost entirely though in what us essentially a subscriber to the 19th century racist idea of some art being highbrow and some being lowbrow, especially if it was popular, showing us how little he really knows.
The sort of person who would have slaughtered all 19th century non European classical music as lowbrow and anything involving percussion as noise.
There are a lot of valid points to be made about The Odyssey but not by absolute tits like this.
I wonder how he might explain that I wasn’t born since 2000, have watched all the films he referenced as art, would list at least one of them as one of my favourite films and recognise the rest as great art/classics even though they’re not amongst my personal faves.
His thing about it not really being a film at all was a bizarre point. Based on stills from other films? Say what?
Sorry Kev but that was top class garbled sh1te unintentional comedy and I’m recommending others watch it for that reason.
