Oops just realised the reference was ND555 not 552 - need to read things properly!
Looking at NDS values they only really dropped in price when the ND555 was launched. I guess without a replacement ND555 people will stick with that.
The linn solution is very neat but the sound is different to Naim, some like it and some find it a little too “polite” sounding.
Different folks different strokes I guess no right or wrong just preferences.
The Linn Selekt is an extremely versatile piece of kit.
You can use in so many ways.
It is worth having a demo.

Same decison i had with 555 vs nds
Now I remember - i think it was me recommending the olive SC on prefix. It’s still a fabulous combination.
When I had my 552dr against 52 (1 year after recapping - at its best performance) battle it was not easy. But the 552dr gave an initial emotional wow. Voices had more emotion and all was focused with better timing. 52 was more rough (in a good way).
But as already mentioned - the better must not be the better.
I really struggle (in my head - and am angry because of the FW gate) that a 10y old NDS (less 10k€) is sounding better than my 3y old nd555 (20k €). From a pure fact based perspective the nd555 is better - but the nds with its naim like mid focus, its massive immersion, its smooth but detailed textures, its coherence, colour and richness and the not too hard but detailed bass touches me much more on long term.
Nd555 can do detail , more authority, attack and live feeling.

No, still the old one. It’s still in a queue to be made and I think I have another 2-3 weeks to go before receiving it.
I’ve had my ND555 since it was first released and think it sounds wonderful. With one 555PS; no room on the Fraim for a 2nd.
I did hear a top of the line Klimax DSM and if I were starting to build a system today certainly would consider it, but not as part of a system that also included a pre-amp. It would be in a very different system from my 555/552/500.
I love my ND555. Yes, it’s been a bumpy ride of late.
I’ve often wondered why with “source first” rule why Naim still haven’t made any strides with releasing a Statement Streamer to join their amps?
They did recruit or tried to recruit software program people of the likes that Linn and Chord have for DSM and Dave……..so watch this space, totally different to their current way of designing.

Not only do these lifestyle boxes sound rubbish, they are no good for impressing your mates or showing off on a hifi forum. Who would possibly want such a thing? They are far too cheap to be any good.

Having been through the firmware debacle and out on the other side I am in a position to comment on the ND555. I was also the owner of an NDS. Have used both with 2 x 555PSDR. Albeit at one point a non Naim PSU.
The ND555 is well made, has a nice screen and remote. It sounds awesome when firmware is right.
The NDS to me sounds virtually the same but has older technology. I made good use of an ND5XS2 into NDS to make use of latest streaming platform.
Having 4 boxes for NDS with ND5XS2 and 2 x 555PS was too much.
A preloved ND555 has been in place for about a year now.
I have compared to it a Linn Klimax DSM NG and there isn’t much in it on a 552DR 500DR rig.
So I doubt a Linn Selekt will be as good TBF. Unless it beats the Klimax NG DSM.
