If you use the buttons to change the iPhone or iPad volume while playing through the Topping, does the audible volume through the Nova change even though the Nova’s volume output is static.
I guess I’m just talking about the overall fidelity of the data transfer to the Topping, as if the bitstream sent to the Topping is scaled to reflect the iDevice volume you’re not getting original data - it may make little audible difference in practice. I’d just prefer it if my devices let the Topping handle conversion completely and the volume could be adjusted potentially better by the Nova than the iDevice.
Very good summary. And I agree, that Apple Music over AirPlay 2 using AAC sounds surprisingly good.
