Are there people who use the balance on their amplifier?

Just wondering. I always see it centered. I don’t have one on my Nait 2XS and never missed it.

I just saw that this topic (obviously) has been raised before …………..

I do - daily. For some bizarre reason I have to change the balance at the start of most LPs.

Supernait 3 / Linn LP12 / NDX 2 / PMC speakers

Sometimes. I finds it useful for replaying a handful of old tapes that are slightly imbalanced one way or the other.

I do. I have a piece of vintage kit with a capacitor that just won’t get the level correct on the left side. So I use the balance to even it out.

But that’s a more unusual application.

I have it slightly off centre and for me that helps resolve the stereo imaging.

There have been numerous threads where people have had balance problems with OC Naim amps when volume control has been near zero end. And occasional ones with other issues mentioned, from an amp fault to speaker fault to layout asymmetry.

Adjust the anti-skate on your TT arm either up or down by a fraction, and that should get the record’s sound stage central again.

All the time. My left speaker is close to an open doorway while the right is near a wall, so the image tends to be to the right of centre. Also, my 552’s balance seems to shift at low volumes.

I use an Atom for TV sound, which works well, but the TV is not centred between the speakers, so the balance control is useful. It’s annoying that the control is buried in the settings menu in the app.

I have owned my Nova since May 2019 & used it with two different sets of speakers.

For both sets I have had to set the balance control at plus two, despite always sitting centrally.

Two friends, younger & with better ears than mine, also agreed that plus two was the correct setting.

I therefore assume that the factory did not adjust the setting correctly but it’s not worth mentioning until the unit needs to go back for service/repair.

I just let my brain do the job …. Have not used it in years.

I used to be confused as I was expecting it to adjust frequencies rather than left and right!

I do. I have an L shaped room that makes one side sound louder than the other so I compensate slightly with the balance control

Hearing shot to pieces on one side so, yeah.

Hi,

I have slight hearing loss in my left ear; I find it I set the balance just to the left of centre, it gives me a more balanced sound.:slightly_smiling_face:

Happy Listening. J
