Thanks so much. I can’t say that I’ve noticed any shortcomings with the Asset version I’m running, though it seems a good idea to be on the latest version.

FYI …… I have a new beta to test.
If it tests out OK it will be on public release reasonably soon.
I will let all know when the public release is out but I will first install and check.

Hi R.K., the versions of DS214 don’t use the same CPU and this part of this problem.
DS214 uses a 1.066 GHz Marvell
DS214play uses a 1.6 GHz Intel
Yup, but Peter will release a version for mine when yours has been shown to work.

While MediaServer interface works, it’s not ideal. Starting to think about upgrading to a new NAS. QNAP or Synology replacement and HDD or SSD? Decision decisions!

Synology are a bit overdue for updates in the CPU area, the current range were introduced in 2023, '24 & '25, maybe some '26 & '27 stuff is coming.
If they do intro’ some ‘27 models, I will definitely be changing.
Next question is do I go SSD ?

Alternatively, stop running Asset on the NAS unit and its CPU, leave it as a ‘Network Attached Storage’ device and run the Music Library management software on a dedicated low-power server.
There are plenty to choose from.
I have run Asset on a RaspberryPi 2 for years, leaving my Netrgear ReadyNAS as just holding/storing and providing access to the files. They can still undertake backups to other storage units, but the rsync utility for this, runs fine on older units, as is part of the existing NAS OS on the unit.
I have also run Roon Server on an Intel NUC, running the same local library as Asset, so I have then available side-by-side 
If you want an ‘off-the-shelf’ solution, then maybe ‘rooUPnP’
This option may be overall cheaper than replacing an entire NAS unit.
New Beta (Current build: 2026-08-10) installs and runs fine on my DS214play.
My PC security refuses to download it, the file contains a Bot threat called ELF: Specter-C.
ELF: Specter-C is targeted at and infects Linux systems.
My DS214 has a Marvell CPU that operates with Linux.
Waiting on advice.
PS …. Spoon has come back and says it’s OK
So will turn off Norton and download …. tomorrow.

Hi Mike - mine showed no security issues. Asset seems to have updated ok though it is still offer me an update to the offending version..Definitely working now. Good luck with yours.
Hi Quickben, Spoon came back and showed me a long list of security progs that do or do not detect a problem with the file, just a few say it’s a problem, but vast majority say it’s OK.
Spoon says I need better, but it’s the BT provided Norton, I’m not minded to change for a once in 5 or 10 years warning.

I’ve installed R26-08-10 Beta on my Synology DS214 with DSM7.1.1 update 9, Linux-ARM32, and it operates OK.
However I had to uninstall my BT Norton package to do this.
It sniffed a trace of Bot Specter-C and refused to download it.
I’ve dumped the .spk file first and then reinstalled BT-Norton, it runs OK and no alarms.
I’ve communicated this with Spoon ……
Let’s hope the next public release package does not have this problem. I’m not prepared to uninstall Norton again.

Is Norton any good these days? I user it years ago but it turned in to a monster that infiltrated the deepest recesses of your system and was pretty much impossible to fully uninstall
Hi @elverdiblanco … the BT ‘Norton’ is not the old Norton from times back.
Its called BT Cyber Threat Protect (and powered by Norton) and is rated as “a robust antivirus package with high malware detection rates”.
The added advantage is its included (free) with the BT broadband/cell(mobile)/TV package and can be installed on up to 15 devices with Win, Mac, Android and iOS on the same deal.
Also included is Scam Assistant for checking suspicious links, messages, QR codes and Dark Web Monitoring … plus a lot of other features.
According to Google Search with/without AI, Bitdefender rates as the top, but the BT & separate Norton packages are also in the top 10 list.
