Assigning sources to inputs on my 282

How do I assign a source to an input on my 282 please? Can I do it through the Naim app or do I need a specific remote?

The manual is not making much sense. It’s driving me insane.

Do you mean on the NDX2, so that you can switch between sources from the App?

Only Aux2 and CD can be assigned on the 282 (and 252), to use either RCA or DIN inputs. The manual spells that out pretty clearly IMO. You need the remote that came with the 282 to perform this.

This is what the manual says. I don’t know that I can explain it better, but maybe let us know what part is confusing.

The NAC 282 has six DIN input sockets and two alternative
pairs of RCA Phono sockets. The RCA Phono sockets can
be assigned individually to the CD and AUX 2 input buttons
in place of the DIN sockets.

Input assignment setup is accessed through the NAC
282 program mode. To switch into (or exit from) program
mode press and hold the prog key on the remote handset
(in preamplifier mode). Program mode is indicated by a
flashing indicator on the front panel volume control and
the record selection indicators extinguishing.

Note: If no function is operated within five minutes of
entering program mode the NAC 282 will return to normal
mode automatically.

Once in program mode press and hold the remote
handset 1 key to select or de-select the RCA Phono socket
input for CD, and the remote handset 6 key to select
or de-select the RCA Phono socket input for AUX 2. The
corresponding front panel input buttons can similarly be
used to select or de-select the RCA Phono socket inputs.
The appropriate input button indicator will flash three
times on selection of the RCA Phono option and once on
selection of the DIN option.

To exit from program mode press and hold the prog key on
the handset until the record select indicators are restored
and the volume indicator stops flashing.

I had my TT connected to the Aux2 via RCA and that still works fine.
I had my NDX2 connected to th CD Din and it was working.
I have added an Audiolab transport+Chord Qutest and connected it to the CD RCA and I have moved the NDX2 from the CD Din to the Tuner Din instead (because I assume that the CD Din and CD RCA cant be used at the same time?). Neither NDX2 or CD are working now.

I assume I have to do something else?

You need to follow the instructions I posted to get the Chord Qutest working with the CD RCA input, since you were using DIN before.

I can’t think of any good reason the NDX2 isn’t working on the Tuner DIN, unless you changed the NDX2 to output on RCA and not on DIN.

I have my 252 configured the same. Turntable on Aux2 RCA and NDX on Tuner DIN.

Ok, so i followed the manual instructions and was able to assign RCA to the CD input and now i have sound coming out of my CD player. I also have sound fromt he NDX2 when I go to the Tuner input however somethign strange is happening; everytime I change the radio channels on the NDX2 the input on the 282 changes from Tuner to CD. It’s very bizarre. Am i doing something wrong?

The other thing I have noticed on the Naim app is that each Radio station I have saved has a warning triangle on the right hand side and when I tap it it says “Station link expiring soon. Please re-save the station again form the internet browser”. Not sure if this is linked to the above issues or is something separate?

Yeah, if you have setup the NDX2 remote to control the 282 via the remote integration cable, you need to change that assignment on the NDX2 from CD to Tuner. I know I have mine working correctly but I can no longer remember the steps for that. It’s in the NDX2 manual.

I have no answer for the Radio thing. I only ever use my NDX2 as a Roon endpoint, and that’s not even that often. I play the turntable 90%+ of the time.

Yeah I have that set up and I assume the reason why the jump from one input to another is because I need to assign them appropriately on the NDX2. However I dont have the NDX2 manual and there doesnt seem to be one on the internet either.

It’s in the Naim app. Select your device (i.e. NDX2), then:

System Settings → System Automation → Preamp Streamer Input: select “Tuner”

[I think that’s the first time I powered up my NDX2 in a couple months  ]

In the preamp streamer input I don’t have a Tuner choice?? I have Preamp 1, Preamp 2, Preamp3,preamp4,preamp5 and technics TT

Edit: Ah, got it… it’s Preamp 2.

Maybe I renamed mine to match input. What you need is one of them. Try Preamp2. This is what my app looks like:

Actually nope it doesn’t work. Because now the CD doesn’t work

I don’t know what else to suggest. I’m out of answers. I just don’t use System Automation very much because my NDX2/XPSDR spends more time powered down than not.

Hopefully someone else has helpful ideas if you don’t figure it out in the meantime.

Sorted it. Somehow I had assigned the CD to digital 1 so assigned it to preamp 1. It’s all working well now. Thank you for taking the time to help :grinning::+1:t3:

Happy to be of assistance. I’m just paying it forward for those who have helped me here over the years. I’m glad you got it sorted without too much waiting for answers.

I believe this is because Naim is moving from Vtuner to providing the internet radio service in house. The Vtuner streams will soon no longer work. I think all you have to do is find the stations you want to have as presets and re-save them.

See the following thread for more on the new service:
