I own atc scm 19 and in the future they will become 20. They will located in a boxed furniture with a television in the middle. I m really afraid about isolation to have a well defined bass. I was thinking about townshend but i feel that they are supposed for floor standing. Are there some experience to share?
Isolating from the furniture is probably going to be worthwhile but if the overall position is sub-optimal I’d be careful, ie distance to the rear and around the speaker. These factors even with a sealed box design make a big difference, and the effect of altering the space behind them was easily audible on my SCM11’s largely in terms of bass character and definition. A ‘bigger’ sounding speaker is going to potentially show these issues more. Home dem in their intended location essential in my view.

SCM20s are extremely revealing speakers, often used in monitoring. In a domestic setting I’d be wary of using them on anything other than dedicated stands. The baffle is carefully designed to minimise diffraction effects and they really need to be free standing for that to work properly.

To be honest I m not sure, almost all the studios are using near field speakers directly located on the console. If we think about genelec this is more obvious, they are sold directly with dedicated isopods
