Atom HE Inputs

I know I should already know this but I’m just not 100% certain

The Atom HE has a digital input which I’m guessing I can use a digital coax cable from my cd player to connect to it? Would I be right in saying that then it would use the Dac in the Atom?

Now if I also wanted to input my partners turntable I would use a phono stage and use the input (L & R) phono with the squiggly line next to it for this?

I know it sounds a bit of a basic question after all my years owning hifi but I want to be certain about the HE before purchasing it

Yes.

And yes.

That’s perfect thanks Neilb

Just a few weeks ago I would have ruled out using streaming as my main source but now I have it I’m a complete convert

I will put my old cd player in the system and my partner’s Rega turntable but can’t see us using either very much

It’s good to have options though. The Atom HE appears to be a great unit. Very flexible. You never know.. you might want an evening just playing CDs or LPs.

What amp are you planning to use.. or are you going active speaker route?

I’ve gone with ATC active 19’s and they sound wonderful with the HE

The Atom HE with powered speakers seems like quite a popular combination (I have a second system with an Atom HE and active Acoustic Energy AE1s).

Makes me wonder what percentage of Atom HE users are using it with speakers but not headphones and whether the initialism HE needs to be retconned to stand for something else.

Absolutely PD the HE is doing a wonderful job as a streaming pre amp into actives for me

I never use headphones

Atom HE could be a nice item in front of a TV/streamer setup with active loudspeakers.

I no longer use headphones, hence what needed is a stripped Atom HE minus the headphone amp - or they could install a phonostage instead, would be appropriate in these vinyl revival days.

Not with the CD5si, which I don’t think has a digital output. You’d need to use analogue output which means the signal is going through the DAC in the CD player.

The OP refers to an old CD player.. so I think they are aware the Naim CD player won’t be suitable to connect to the HE.

The headphone amp doubles up as the preamp, so you there might not be as much stuff to strip out as you are hoping for.

I took that to mean the CD5si listed in her profile and mentioned in previous posts.

No I wasn’t referring to the CD5Si as I have a couple of older cd players that I could use instead that have digital output

I don’t think I’ll use cd’s much at all now but just in case
