Hi Guys, Considering upgrading my Audiolab CDT 6000, however I see Russ Andrews do internal upgrade/Mods to improve the sound of said Transport for under £600.
Has anyone had this done and how did it improve the sound. Thanks for any response.
You will lose any warranty and it would be unlikely that Audiolab would do repairs outside of warranty. Personally i would look for another transport.
Why not just upgrade to the AudioLab CDT9000?
Just a thought.

Perhaps consider trading up to the 7000 or 9000, rather than sacrificing you warranty for an unknown outcome from an unofficial ‘upgrade’…
A supposed upgrade, voiding any warranty…?
No.
What Russ Andrews is doing to the CDT6000 is improving the PSU with better capacitors and replacing the clock with a Trichord Master clock. That mod is quite common among DYIs, there’s a lot of info online, not necessarily for the CDT6000 but for several other transports. I think it is a bit pricey though, if it was more competitively priced I would probably try it once past the warranty period. A more precise clock is usually an audible improvement.
Recently tried the Project RS2 Transport
Retail around £2200
To polite for me very disapointing
The 7000 and 9000 do not appeal to me.
Have heard some negative reviews though I haven’t heard them
Perhaps a 15/20 year old hi-end CD player maybe my solution?
I like a bright sound with plenty of weight and slam.
Whatever I purchase will be paired with a RME ADI 2 FS Dac, which
I absolutely adore.
Linn Ikemi is good as transport and will be an upgrade over 6000
I would be surprised if the RA modded 6000CDT was not superior to the 9000CDT, which still looks pretty cheapish on the insides, but boasts a color screen on the outside.
There are a few things that can boosr a 6000CDT…a better power cord, a better fuse and some vibration isolation supports (I use Herbie feet). And a decent coax also helps ( i have 4 different ones and use a pure silver one from…AliExpress as preference).
My 6000CDT had a wonky( broken) RCA coax jack from the beginning, but this was recently replaced.
