Baffled by Naim radio (lack of)

Hi maybe my individual gripe is not worthy of a new topic.
I am relatively well versed in streaming issues, but the Naim radio issue has me beat, I am 76 y.o. suffering from extreme fatigue as a result of cancer treatment. Sob story over, but with my limited energy, I just can’t hang in there long enough to get internet radio stations on my UnitiQute2.
Does anyone know if this is even possible as of March 2025? Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers

You need to update to the latest firmware, version 4.9. Link here:

As HH says, the uq2 firmware will be out of date so iradio won’t work.
You’ll need to connect your laptop to the uq2 rear panel usb socket and run some software to get it upgraded. It’s pretty straightforward and done in 10 minutes. All the instructions are on the Naim website upgrades site (linked above).

Honestly, in your situation, I’d ask a friend or family member to take your UQ to the nearest dealer and ask them to check that it is compatible with the upgrade and, if so, have them do it.

You can check the value displayed for “bc sw” in settings, or in the Naim app. Any mention of “3D” and you’re good to go.

Thanks for the replies. I have already updated the firmware and the app. Now, when going to iRadio in the app I no longer get the array of flags but simply :Naim Radio; no results!

You’ll need to re-add your saved radio stations - the old favourites (or presets) don’t transfer across from vtuner to Naim radio.

When you tap on internet radio in your Naim app, you’ll be able to browse through to find (and add) the stations that you want.

Or you can tap on the search icon (the magnifying glass), type the name of the station, and if you tap on the “show” to the right of radio stations at the top on the right, it’ll show the radio stations with that name

Thanks JonoB, but as I said, I have nothing to choose from, no list, no search icon, just: no results.

I have recently had a similar problem with various Uniti boxes. I solved it by selecting the station list via the front panel using the remote. After that the list reappeared in the app,

If you tap at the bottom of the screen, on top of where the volume control shows, this should take you to the “Now Playing” screen. There will be an option to stop the Naim Radio stream or maybe to stop trying to connect. It depends what is going on.

Anyway tap that stop or stop trying to connect link and then close the now playing screen by tapping the x in the top right hand corner. You should find all your station choices start to populate immediately.

Davidhendon, Paul Eastwood,: Thanks guys, tried both approaches individually and a combination of both to no avail.
Front panel attempt reads NaimR128k; connecting ad infinitum (yawn :face_with_spiral_eyes:) no station list and via the app Zilch!. Stubborn blank interface. Thanks for the input though.
I have done all the updates and reset numerous times, so the unit should be in a neutral, updated state. Obviously I am missing some simple step

You need to stop it endlessly trying to connect to Naim Radio. In the IOS app tapping in the volume control to get the now playing screen and doing what I described sorted out three legacy streamers that were each just sitting trying to connect endlessly and a gen 1 muso Qb too.

If you are trying to reset your UQ2 to solve it, you need to do a factory reset, not just take the power off to restart it.

Isn’t it enough to select something using another source and then go back to internet radio. Now it is not playing or trying to pplay a dead stream and should instead pickup the new main station list?

I didn’t find that. I think switching to another input doesn’t change the selected station data, so when internet radio is next selected, it sticks with the “current” station. Ie a feature not a bug!

@ davidhendon, the part where my attempts fall down, is that from the now playing screen, requesting ‘stop streaming’ does nothing!
I have now uninstalled and re-installed the app; no change!
Thanks again for all the suggestion guys.

It’s nothing to do with the app. So that was never going to work.

Have you done a factory reset of your UQ2? You can find that option if you navigate the menu structure brought up by the spanner or wrench key in the remote. That should stop the UQ2 requesting Naim radio.

I actually think it does but cannot check it, at least it is a way out or at least something that can be tested with minimal effort.

Claus

I agree with David, it will just try and reconnect to the last station it was on when you switch back to iRadio.

@davidhendon, bingo, factory reset has given me a buch of radio stations in presets, but not ones I’ve ever used :open_mouth:. So, as I understand it, I should delete these and replace with my stations, sounds simple except that I can’t find any other stations

Ignore the favourites for the moment. If you go back to the home page in the app and select Internet radio, just wait for a few seconds and you should see something like this:

Each of those is the head of a huge list of stations. Mainly they are organised by geography but you can search each list, you don’t have to find your station by navigating to it.

This is a SuperUniti but it’s the same in UQ2.
