Barco to acquire Vervent Audio

It does: Naim for Zeekr | Naim Audio
Not a mass product, but neither is Bentley.

I doubt it, as Barco’s current products aren’t exactly at the “home consumer” level, although many may have experienced Barco products without knowing - if you’ve been to the cinema lately or hospital, or flown somewhere, or…

And don’t forget Naim for Pininfarina..

Same here, I hope Naim can be as good as 100% independent, they clearly are not at present. Oh, and start making speakers again! Focal is just bland hifi sounding IMO

Regretfully, I agree with this prognosis. One box streamers and turntables with amps that connect via Bluetooth to speakers are products that the younger generation might purchase. None of my 4 children are interested in serious hi fi.

It’ll come with age. If I may live old I’m sure at least one of my 4 kids (too) will have proper Hifi.

Be pleased for them, it’s a good thing. Although its nice to share an interest/hobby, I would only find it a real shame if my daughter wasn’t t into music. But Hifi? Not really.

We spend spend vast amounts of money on equipment, and do you honestly believe we enjoy music more than others who are into music, but not hifi? We don’t. It’s an expense the younger generation doesn’t need. Although, as they won’t be able to buy a house, maybe living rent-free in our basements will give them the disposable income for hifi?

I can’t help but think of Boothroyd Stewart/Meridian and how they drifted away from meaningful hifi in favor of other product categories entirely.

My kit will need servicing between 2037 and 2040. Should I be worried? Will I live that long? Will Naim still exist? This thread is unsettling…

Fingers crossed that this is a good move for Naim.

that may be because they simply aren’t aware of how good and enjoyable it can sound. of course not everyone has to love music, just like everyone doesn’t need to love cinema

life, for me, has been so much better because of music and cinema.

Yeah cheers Richard, I kinda suspected that would be the case, its a name well known but doesn’t pitch into the consumer market directly with products. Maybe this is a new avenue for them. I was looking at the synergy of a consumer lead company like Naim being in the stable of a parent org with little experience of that.

Maybe and hopefully Barco have an exec leadership team filled with massive music fans and have homes stacked with Naim.

Who knows what the outcome will be. As an eternal optimist (I am for my sins a Portsmouth FC supporter) I can see possible new products and some support for R and D as well as buying power for components. So maybe that Statement streamer will appear or the new 500 series? New entry level integrated amps etc?

Barco appear to provide lifestyle integrated products where the “machine” is pretty much hidden from view, so that may become an overriding design aim. What we often crave as enthusiasts is having a shed load of electronics in fancy or not so fancy boxes on display so we can see how good our systems are! With this sort of integration the “System Pics” thread may become redundant, unless we have a thread based on “The view inside my home entertainment hub / cupboard)! Why not I guess? I do like looking at my six black boxes I admit ….

It could pan out lots of ways but I hope for more investment along with keeping the core values of the company as we know it. There is an enthusiasm for the cause within the great team at Salisbury. Although the site in Salisbury would be impossible to expand I’d really hope that any expansion is local to preserve that passion. Linn managed that, so it can be done.

I did say I’m an optimist!

My fingers are crossed in true optimist fashion:crossed_fingers:

I think BT used to employ them, perhaps they have vacancy.

I first experienced Barco in the very early 80s when I encountered one of their CRT monitors. The picture and sound were absolutely outstanding compared to the domestic TVs of the time.

Hopefully they will be good custodians of the Naim flame.

And a happy Wednesday to you too!

I’m sure I’m just one of many on here who enjoys Jonathan’s well thought out posts.

I’m always conscious of language differences but your question comes over as plain rude and mildly aggressive. I wouldn’t want Barco getting the wrong idea about this great forum.

I think Audiophiles are a dying breed. I may make a couple of changes upgrade my Nait XS and new CD player but as now in 60s im unlikley to buy new, just cant afford it. CD player may be new but amp wont be.

My PMC FB1i are here to stay.

In maybe 7 to 8 years will be downsizing and losing a great dedigned for sound listening room based on golden dimensions so i will then keep whatever i have unless the PMCs are to big for the room.

I got my interest from my father but i cant see my daughter being that worried about it.

So Naim like ATC and other traditional manufacturers need to adapt or die.

If the newer genrerations havent heard better they wont seek it out unless they become rich and hear someone elses system.

They are all into music, and the two youngest play violin and piano. My partner is a violinist and singer. There would be an uprising if they could not access Apple Music …..
