Bath and Oxford

I’ve had too much fun in both cities over many decades.

It’s a damn shame ‘Moles’ closed recently (I once saw a band called ‘On a Friday’ there c.’92, who morphed into ‘Radiohead’ a few months later – what a racket!) but Bath is a beautiful city and very walkable. Plus some lovely villages in and around the area, like Castle Combe.

Last time I was in Oxford, about 18 months ago, I really enjoyed exploring Worcester College and the ‘Turf Tavern’ hidden down a little cobbled lane. Enjoy your visit to the UK.

Love it when a regular tourist, oops, traveller…blasts other tourists

Gotta love this place.

I know Limpley Stoke well. My best School friend lived in Freshford. We engaged in underage drinking at the “Gay Lord” hotel, which I see has changed its name.

He was right, except that he began his sentence with “And”.

Great name, I think that’s the “Best Western Hotel” now, doubt it has changed much as very dated. The Hop Pole opposite which was bought by the community and reopened up last year and serves good beer and food.

The Lamb and Flag in Oxford, now reopened, has a great history.

That’s right. Someone who moves about with a caravan.

My use of it stems from a slogan put out by my employer a couple of years ago, to our mainly middle and upper-middle class customers buying suitcases:

"Remember…you’re not a tourist. You’re a traveller… "

:nauseated_face::face_vomiting:

Or stays in the same muddy field for 3 years until the fuzz move them along

@jegreenwood Apologies for being rather late to the thread (just back from being a tourist in London to see the wonderful Self Esteem in Teeth ‘N’ Smiles - coincidence!).

I studied in Bath and it is a wonderful city to walk around. So many places to stay and eat - consider Soto Soto if you don’t mind spending a bit more and can get a booking!

The shopping lanes are great but don’t neglect the shopping streets that radiate out from the centre - Walcott Street is lovely and the walk back along St John’s Road is quite tranquil. The area at the North of the main centre is good too - area around the Assembly Rooms and across to the various squares and crescents. Have a great time.

BTW - my avatar is the photo on the original cover of the published script for “Teeth ‘n’ Smiles.” That’s Helen Mirren singing.

Hope you enjoy Teeth ‘N’ Smiles. Recommend getting there early and going to the bar on the first floor - great view from the balcony of the street below.

My thoughts about the show are link here’ but suggest you don’t read them until after the show - be interested in your thoughts.
