BBC suspends proposed closure of the BBC Singers

Reprieve - temporary…?

Let’s hope not - it was a horrific PR train wreck from an organisation that is quite well practised at producing them at the best of times!

I still recall a concert in Manchester’s old Free Trade Hall. The work being played was Bach’s B Minor Mass and it was simultaneously broadcast on Radio 3. The chorus was the BBC Singers (together with the BBC Northern Singers IIRC). There was a starry lineup of soloists, but at the end of a memorable performance, the greatest volume of applause was for the chorus and it was fully justified IMO. That performance still lives in my memory. I really do hope the Beeb thinks again and retain this wonderful chorus.
