Totally agree. Best song from the album for me. Great song, great lyrics.
“We gotta stay cool tonight Eddy,'cause man we got ourselves out on that line.
And if we blow this one they ain’t gonna be looking for just me this time.”
Whole song breathes the atmosphere of 2 smalltime criminals heading towards their downfall. At least that is what I think this song is about.
And yes,the trumpet plays a key role in setting the scene.
Thanks for the reminder, gonna dig it right up.
Lot’s of Chet Baker he was a master at this type of music I’d add
The Touch of Your Lips on Steeplechase Records.
Jon Hassell On trumpet
Pretty much anything by Matthew Halsall, “Salute to the Sun” is your starter for 10.
There is an excellent live version of the above LP out there too along with other excellent material.
Not on “Gone to earth”, it’s Kenny Wheeler. Hassell plays on “brilliant trees”.
Thanks for the correction adding Kenny Wheeler to my Qobuz playlists now.
It’s not quite all slow, but this is an excellent trumpet and flugelhorn CD.
Till Bronner 2012 Verve / Germany CD / 060253719115
Superb choice. I am really enjoying this album.
I’ve really enjoyed Till Bronner’s “Nightfall” album. It has a few moody tracks on it! It’s an Interesting duo album that shows off Bronner’s huge ability without being too commercial.
Not sure it meets every adjective in your question but try your compatriot Kenny Wheeler and stellar band on Angel Song on ECM.
Sketches of Spain
As said earlier Tomasz Stanko is a good bet if you like jazz fusion.
On this there’s also some lovely sax breaks by Jan Garbarek.
