The Goodies were essential viewing and now only Graeme Garden is left. About time the BBC repeated the shows.
Sad and unexpected news, RIP. Many years ago in Ray’s Jazz I came across a second hand LP signed ‘B Oddie’ on the back, he’d obviously sold some of his collection.
The Goodies were a weekly televisual highlight in the 70s.
His contribution to bird and wildlife TV programmes was very important imho and he was also an original presenter of Springwatch. He came over as a very likeable guy.

A lovely gentle man who managed to create a role for himself in both peoples childhoods and their adulthoods. Poorly treated by the BBC but there’s an argument that his conversations around family trauma and mental health were just as important as the comedy and natural world stuff.
I managed to source an excellent 13 DVD box from Japan via my sibling maybe 7 or 8 years ago, which I believe is the only set covering the BBC and LWT stuff together? Of course it was horrendously patchy but the great stuff really was great and stands up even now.
A childhood hero.
He was guest speaker at my graduation ceremony. I made a point to meet him at the bar after. Lovely chap.

Sad news; I was not a great fan of his comedy or nature conservation, but I respected and admired his enthusiasm and knowledge.

The Goodies were a huge favourite in my childhood and many episodes are still funny.
Admittedly several episodes might be considered offensive by some these days, but they weren’t at the time (from memory anyway) and would clearly have certain elements removed or re-jigged for modern audiences.
I always took Bill’s character as the most normal down to earth of the lot in the show.
Very sad to hear he had mental health issues.
I bought some DVDs years ago and showed the kids - they found several episodes quite hilarious even if some of the episode contexts were a bit historical.
