Roy Jenkins, Gladstone: A Biography New York: Random House Trade Paperbacks, 1995; paperback ed. 2002. 698 pages. Dense and assumes some knowledge of British political history. Generally pro-Gladstone.
Colin Matthew, Gladstone: 1809-1898
Paperback (23 Oct 1997)
Discusses Gladstone’s private life and extensive reading. Look for second hand or library book.
