One of the Aberystwyth pier murmuration.
Though I don’t keep records, it feels like there are greater numbers of Pink-footed Geese this year, forming huge skeins as they move to and from their feeding grounds. I reckon there are at least a thousand in this image and there were many more before and after them - a true spectacle.
Cheers,
Ian
Wow.
Stunning. A true force of nature.
The Itch
Not an upgrade itch, just a common one. Coming out of the water, a pair of Mallards getting ready to settle for the night.
My goodness that’s awesome - where was this sighting please?
I did notice about a month ago what I thought were large numbers of geese flying by - probably no more than 50, but even that was much more than I have seen before. Your image is big time different gravy!

Peanuts appeared to be getting incredibly popular in my back garden recently. After a few observations it turned out that Jays have figured out how to grab onto and access the feeder. They take it in turns and very effectively empty the feeder in next to no time! Magpies are regulars to this part of the garden but haven’t succeeded - perhaps they are too large or wrong shaped beaks?
Peter
Hi Peter,
These are around Nairn, NE Scotland. There are good numbers along the coast here every winter, but all the local birders are of the view that numbers in our patch, are substantially higher this year.
'ere, what happened to his head ? Flew into a brick wall, or sommat ?
Now this is a proper Robin…
Baltimore, County Cork, Ireland, April this year.
Water colors
A brave lonesome male Wood Duck displaying his winter technicolors, not minding my presence for a change. It snowed lately and then it rained enabling the ponds to gain territory.
We like going to Aberlady Bay in East Lothian on the Forth in the Autumn to watch all the geese flying over, amazing site
Ahh Rainbow Lorikeet…. Just been viewing a few myself on hol in Aus …
Lots of fantastic parrot species
